Ok Help me decide what car to get. I am 18 I just graduated high school. No my dad not is buying it, and we are not rich. I will be paying for this car. I have been saving up and will put about 12-15k down. Yeah I have a good job. Ok anyways I was wondering what would be a good car. Honda S2000, Mercedes c230, Cadillac Cts, BMW 325i. You get the point- I want something that is clean, quick, and looks good. I drive a shitter right now and want something nice. I want to keep this car until my early 20s. Anytime I look up these cars I get more confused on what I should get so I wanted to ask people with experience with these models. Also not only the ones I listed but also if you have something that is similar and what I am looking for I would like to hear from you. Thanks

The S2000 is the most reliable and would have the least amount of maintenance expenses. The only problem w/ it as an only car is that you don't have much storage space and it's kind of a rough ride. Why don't you check out a G35 Coupe? I think that would be ideal.

Buying an expensive sports car at 18 years old is a foolish financial plan. The insurance alone would be so high you couldn't afford to drive the car. Financing a $40K vehicle will cost you $500 - $600 a month even with your $15K down payment. Add $250 a month for insurance and you've got a car note close to $700 - $800 a month before you've even put gas in the car and eaten a single meal. Unless you are making at least $2500 a month take home and have been for 2 years no bank is going to give you a loan.

Why don't you do something positive in your life and go to college. Spend you money on your future not your now.

Before deciding on any of them, my advise to you is to call the insurance company and get a rough quote on the insurance premium. All of the cars you mentioned are considered premium sporty. Based on your age and driving experience, they are likely to quote you something like 2000 dollars a year or even higher.

In addition, be aware, even if you buy used, BMW and MB will cost you just as if you bought new when they need to be repaired or maintained. Are you sure you can handle it? Never forget, German cars are made to be maintained. Their routine maintenance are not anything like Japanese models in terms of items that needs attention and replaced.

My advise to you is to FORGET any of the cars you mentioned and buy a NEW or very late model Honda Civic. A good car all around.

Do yourself a favor and call the insurance company to get an "what-if" quote. You'll be surprised.... Plus, at the budget you have, you will be buying 5 year old C230 or 325i. Are you going to have the money to do the brake job that will cost about 800 dollars on these vehicles? How about an oil change at 100 dollars+? They use synthetic oil, you know.... You'll be wise to separate your desires from needs and do the due diligence. You really shouldn't even be considering German used cars if sudden repair costing 1000 dollars or more mean something to you. They are wonderful to drive, but you need to be able to support it financially.

If it were me, I would choose the Mercedes C230, it's sporty and should be safer than all the other choices. But don't buy one with a huge price tag, cause you'll need some of the money for payments, insurance, accidents, etc. One more thing, why do you want to keep the car for 2 years? I would save the money for an even better car for the future. Just take the bus, or ask your parents if you can take one of their cars to college.

Best of luck choosing!

You should buy a house or something that is a good investment. Cars are horrible investments!

ps..it doesn't matter if you are a good driver at your age, your insurance is going to be ridiculously high..period plain and simple. Even with 15000 down you are going to spending way too much for a car have you ever had to service a bmw or mercedes its hella expensive. You sound like you have your head on your shoulders, except for this purchase..its just not wise.
