It depends on how committed Americans are to losing the war. If it's only a half-hearted committment, such as Congress has displayed so far in failing to de-fund the war, then it might drag on for a few more years.

If enough Americans are really committed to defeat, though, it could be lost in less time. It will be very difficult to lose the war completely on Bush's watch, though, as he obviously doesn't want that to be his legacy. Getting enough votes together to override a veto of a timetable is essential, as it's hard to lose a war while your military if fighting for victory, unless you can give the enemy some serious advantages. A timetable for defeat would obviously be a great boon, as the enemy would only have to hold on for the specified time to be assured victory.

If that doesn't work, simply losing the war should be easier once a Democrat is safely ensconced in the White House. If you want to hasten defeat, you should try to see that Obama wins the primary, as Hilary is cynical enough to want to avoid the political black mark of a military defeat on her watch.

So, I guess you could say that we just have to be patient. Defeat will come, but we have to stay the course, and remain committed to losing the war. So, keep marching, keep protesting, and don't falter - remember, there is always a risk of victory, however slight!

Which war are you talking about, we have won the war against iraqs military and arent losing the war against insurgents. They have basically drawn us into a state where in order to maintain a military prescense in Iraq we will have to put up with a certain amount of casualties. the war is already lost if you put it in certain terms, the people dont want us there and all thats happening now is more and more islamic extremists are being trained and thrown into the fray, we will never win because they are not goin to change there point of view, they will always be willing to kill themselves for there cause and longer we stay there the more pissed off they get and the more of them join, even afganistan is now become more of a hotzone, but depends on what your definition of the war is because to a lot of people believe we have already won the war military but have or will lose the war to keep insurgents away.

Ken C = Mr Clueless.

The reason why they are all voting more money to support the war is that your media will paint anyone who does the opposite as being "against our troops". It seems that supporting troops means sending them to their deaths in a initially mistaken and now pretty must lost endeavour.

I am a strong believer that you have to be careful that your strong points are not also your weak points. In the case of the US, your patriotism is impressive.... much greater than ours in Australia. The downside is that your national fervour and sense of 'strength' has also led you down a path where you have made gross mistakes. The way your media works, or doesn't work, exacerbates the problem. Anyone who suggests that there is any decision that might be wrong, any aspect of your laws or culture is bad, etc is immediately painted as a traitor, coward, non american.

I would side with the gentleman who suggested that we all read the Art of War. In fact, read philosophy generally. The human race has a history of wise men (women too, but unfortunately unpublished) who did nothing but think about morality, strategy, spirituality, the meaning of existence...

Unfortunately, we now all dismiss this, and deride anyone who has the lust for knowledge and solid thought... ie they usually study arts degrees and get laughed at by people who think the only things of value are coloured green or gold.

Good question.. you won't get many good answers.

There is no win or lose in this mess we are in. If the objective is to control the entire middle east and make them behave themselves, it's ridiculous to believe we can achieve that. Thousands of armies and thousands of years and that has not been accomplished. The best we could hope for now is that the Iraqi government and police take on the task of policing their own civil war. Otherwise, Muqtada Al Sadr will just take over where Saddam left off, and it will be the Shiites oppressing the Sunni's for a while. Either way we need to get out and let them handle their own lives.

What war. You have a rag-tag group of bomb throwers and mine layers killing twice as many civilians as died in Vietnam in the name of religion .Wars are fought by armies who oppose each other toe to toe not kil women and babies as a political statement .The war may start when the cowards in Teheran decide to put an army in the field instead of deranged religious zealots as surrogates to create their mayhem.Nostradamus how many wars did sun sou win ,a total of none .l

Nice....Really nice.....
Forget your hatred for Bush for a moment and remember that both Parties have voted the same every inch of the way.
Do you think there is a reason both Parties continue to vote money for it, regardless of what they say?
