Your beliefs are your beliefs. If you ask a catholic if you should be a gnostic, they're going to tell you that you shouldn't. If you ask a protestant if you should continue being a gnostic, they're going to tell you you're already a protestant. If you ask an atheist if you should be a gnostic, they're going to tell you it's a step in the right direction, but that the rejection of materialism is a bit silly. If you ask a Hindu, they're going to tell you everyone is already a Hindu... you get the picture.
If Gnosticism is the way you've decided to go, do keep in mind it's a very elitist religion. Fortunately for you, like many esoteric religions, it borrows a lot. A lot of gnostics believe that special spiritual knowledge is necessary for enlightenment, but the concept of gnostic enlightenment itself borrows a lot from eastern cultures, and so reading up on Zen buddhism can help. Also, a lot of the special spiritual knowledge itself comes from Jewish mysticism (with names changed around a bit). And, of course, this is the information age; I've included the wikipedia article on Gnosticism.
All the old problems in the world are still there today. The only difference between the 4th century and this one, is that you can decide what you want to believe without anyone threatening your life (although a lot of people are pretty quick to threaten your afterlife :p ). To answer your question, no one can tell you how to get to heaven. A lot of us aren't sure there is a heaven, and as a general rule, asking that kind of question to someone else doesn't prove helpful very often (I hope I've been an exception, but I probably sell my own brand of philosophy as much as anyone else does). Good luck to you.

The bible teaches all things are possible through God. I don't know anyone that leads a perfect life though.
It is not by works that we are saved but by faith. You sound like you want to go ahead and make a conscious decision to follow Christ why not join the club it's easy and the intelligent thing to do. Study your bible and you will learn to trust it. The gnostic teachings don't really add anything to the word and if god had wanted them in the bible they would be there.
You don't really think even a large group of men could have put the bible together so flawlessly and seamlessly if God wasn't there?
I say forget the denomination whichever and put your faith in Christ and the Holy Spirit to guide you. I will be praying for you. God Bless!

If we LIVE by Christ's teaching, we can't sin. period. I'm a gnostic too. I also have studied Christianity and other religions. What I've found in every health, positive religion is that they are based on loving unconditionally. It's hard to do, but it is what the Christ taught.
Blessed Be

Gnostics believe that Jesus didn't come in the flesh which would mean that He didn't really suffer and die on the cross. Are you sure you want to believe that? The early church father's fought against gnostism so I would have to say that if you believe that it is not ok and you need to change to the Christianity taught in the bible. God bless!

I believe only the Catholics still follow the Pope.
There is nothing wrong with being a Gnostic, I don't see why you wouldn't.

Gnosticism, which predates Christianity by a few centuries, teaches:
+ The physical world is bad
+ Only spirituality is good
+ Humans are trapped in between
+ Salvation comes from knowledge (gnosis means knowledge)
+ Elitism, only a chosen few will be saved
All of which go against the teaching of Christianity
+ The physical world is good. God said so in Genesis.
+ Humans are physical and spiritual beings and both natures are good
+ Salvation comes from grace and not merit
+ God wants all to be saved

God will work and does work outside the visible structure of the Roman Catholic Church. If you know the Catholic Faith is true and then deny it, you have a big problem. But if you don't know that the Catholic Church is the true church, of course yu can be saved.
Why did the Catholic Church reject Gnosticism? There are good reasons the Church did. Reading Catholic sources is important here, especially the decress of the Ecumenical Councils.

Christ was tortured and rejected; crucified on a cross without committing a single crime and without sin to pay the price for mans transgressions. If you can do as Jesus did that's great. I however need to rely on Christ finished work on the cross.
It was good enough for GOD so it is good enough for me.
Praise Jesus,

I don't believe you have to listen to the Pope. Believing and having faith and a personal relationship with Jesus is all you need.
