The Bible has lot of contradictions I am going to quote and describe only 4 of them.
1)According to the Bible, Book of Genesis,
chapter 1, verses 11-13,
Vegetation was created on the third day along with seed-bearing grasses, plants and trees; and further on as per verses 14-19, the sun was created on the fourth day. How is it scientifically possible for the vegetation to have appeared without the presence of the sun, as it has been stated in the Bible?
It also says light is created on the first day where as the source of light 'The Sun' is created on the fourth day. How is this scientifically possible?
2)According to Bible Fowl has four legs.
Lev 11:20-21: "All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you." Fowl do not go upon all four. There has not been any fossils of winged creatures found that has four legs. So therefore, it is not very accurate in describing Biology.
3) Measurement problem in the Bible according to
Kings 7:23 "He made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about." Circumference = Pi() x Diameter, which means the line would have to have been over 31 cubits. In order for this to be rounding, it would have had to overstate the amount to ensure that the line did "compass it round about." According to the Bible the value of Pi is 3 which is incorrect.
4) The Bible suggests the Earth is flat according to Matt 4:8: " Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them." Unless the world is flat, altitude simply will not help you see all the kingdoms of the earth

I believe there are grains of truth in it and if it was viewed as an educational piece instead of 'the truth', different social ideas and customs over the different time periods it was written in, could be taught.
But, it does contradict i self (ie-'an eye for an eye' vs 'turn the other cheek') and there are some geographical errors, as well as numerical errors and the philosophy of it (some still believe the God of the OT is male whereas others think it's of neither gender...but creates them anyway)...the philosophy that a singular deity would be omniscient yet create beings that would cause anger/discomfort-anything negative, is not in our-that would be any humans-understanding
Plus, if any being was 'perfect' in the first place, that would leave no motivation at all to create anything.
The NT, I read, has a lot of Platonic philosophy in it so I could see it as a teaching tool...if there weren't some who are so insistent that anyone 'believe' all of it.

Sure, I believe it's a book. Saw one the other day, I'm convinced it's real.
Do I believe it's the word of god? Nope. I believe it's a compilation of historical writings. I don't believe it's devine inspiration, it reflects the male point of view from the times it was written. Women were property and unimportant, people with unknown ailments such as epilepsy and schizophrenia were "demon possessed," and if it were truly the word of god it would rise above these things and be timeless.

No.
The Bible is written by human hands (whatever any "Love Jesus" campaigner might say about it's divine character, I don't buy it) and I refuse to respect the rules of some power-hungry 2000 year old idiot.
The only bits of the Bible I do agree with are those about loving and respecting your fellows and trying to maintain peace - which is something that the Church people themselves have ignored up to now.

Well, by definition, of course not. Here is why.
It is clearly a book of myths. The Sun stands still, and yet no one else on earth reports this happening, Man is made at the end of a week of universal creation, which physical evidence show not to be the case at all. The Arc story is ridiculous. It goes on.
The thing is, there just isn't any compelling evidence to believe the book.

If an atheist doesn't believe in God, why would they believe that a book is the word of that God? That wouldn't make any sense.

I am not convinced that anyone really believes the Bible, I think they are being silly and annoying for the sake of it and because it can with some clever and artful embroidery provide a twisted excuse for their unpleasant prejudices.

I am not an atheist. I think the bible is crap!
David = Bi-sexual adulterous murderer and resident nut job
Lot = Incestuous lying asshole
Samson = Hung around with prostitutes, committed suicide while killing his religious enemies
Japhthah = Burned his own daughter on an altar
Solomon = had 300 concubines
Abraham = pathological liar who was willing to kill his own son. Married to his own sister.
Noah = Chronic drunk who liked to pass out naked with his junk exposed to male family members.

.The origin of the English Bibles of today can be traced to a time when men, supposedly under the divine inspiration of God, first wrote the books of the Bible. Before the fourth century CE, there were more that 30 different gospels, some of which can be found on the Gnostic & Apocrypha page. Many were officially outlawed during the Council Nicaea in 325 CE and the Council of Laodicea in 364 CE. These councils eventually agreed on what is now considered the "word of God", under the direction of Constantine, collating the accepted teachings into a single comprehensive book.
http://ecclesia.org/truth/hell.html
In the King James Bible, the term "hell" is used 54 times; 31 times in the Old Testament, and 23 times in the New Testament. What is the meaning of the word "hell" in the bible? In the Old Testament, it is translated from one word, Sheol. In the New Testament, "hell" is translated from three words, tartaroo, Hades, and Gehenna.
Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)
They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)
But if this charge is true (that she wasn't a virgin on her wedding night), and evidence of the girls virginity is not found, they shall bring the girl to the entrance of her fathers house and there her townsman shall stone her to death, because she committed a crime against Israel by her unchasteness in her father's house. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst. (Deuteronomy 22:20-21 NAB)
Make ready to slaughter his sons for the guilt of their fathers; Lest they rise and posses the earth, and fill the breadth of the world with tyrants. (Isaiah 14:21 NAB)
"Then I heard the LORD say to the other men, "Follow him through the city and kill everyone whose forehead is not marked. Show no mercy; have no pity! Kill them all – old and young, girls and women and little children. But do not touch anyone with the mark. Begin your task right here at the Temple." So they began by killing the seventy leaders. "Defile the Temple!" the LORD commanded. "Fill its courtyards with the bodies of those you kill! Go!" So they went throughout the city and did as they were told." (Ezekiel 9:5-7 NLT)
The Bible shows that God does NOT consider human life to be precious. He kills OVER 2 million people, including babies, and that isn't counting fetuses or the number of men, women, children, and fetuses killed during the Flood or the Slaughter of the Firstborns, when we are not told how many people he killed.
The Bible clearly shows that God approves of abortion, and in many cases commands it:
The Bible approves of killing pregnant women: Genesis 38:24, Numbers 31:17
The Bible approves of abortion: 2 Kings 15:16
God approves of abortion: Hosea 13:15-16
People are not counted as persons until they are a month old: Numbers 3:15
The Bible contains directions on how to abort any pregnancy caused by adultery: Numbers 5:12-31
The Bible says that being aborted is better than living a bad life: Ecclesiastes 6:3-5, Matthew 26:24
The Bible says that a person becomes a living soul when he BREATHES the BREATH of life into his nostril (fetuses don't breathe): Genesis 2:7

Sure. Its a book that really exists.
If youre asking if I place any stock in it, if I beleive it to be the word of God.... I can only LAUGH and say "why of course not."
Why not? Because atheists do not beleive in gods? Thats a good place to start...

Why all the questions for Atheist? They must really be smart. You don't have anyone in your religion that can answer your questions. Atheist don't believe in God. Why do people ask them religious questions? You don't see any Atheist asking atheist questions.
