My husband is a cop and is ex Army. There are a lot of ex-military working as cops and most departments give you extra points in the testing process but it still depends if you can pass all the requirements such a psychological testings, background and credit check and polygraph.

With a military background AND a degree (even an associates - some do prefer a bachelors), almost any department/agency would consider hiring you. As for the money, that depends on where you live. There is usually plenty of opportunity for overtime. Most agencies pay for your police academy on the condition that you work there for a specific amount of time. If you leave before that time is up, you usually have to pay back the balance of your academy cost. Apply wherever you want ! Just make sure its really what you want to do.

I would imagine that depends on where you are from and the need for new law enforcement officers.. I'm from Cleveland and the police in this area are always being cut back and quite frankly I wouldn't want to work for Cleveland, but some of the surrounding suburbs may have a need for new law enforcement. You'll just have to check out where you want to be a police officer... I think after being in the military that becoming a police officer would be a cake walk, but I could be wrong.. Good luck

the ASC deg will help you, the military will give you a boost too. you will ahve to pass all of the tests that go with the job, then go through the academy of the agency. It takes patience to get through it, but you can do it. Different states require different things. Do a little research and find out where you want to be, then start applying as soon as you can.

Not sure where your going to apply but in my city any military experience added a few percentage points to your score. I'm not sure if it will be hard for you, depending on your test scores, background, psych exam, oral interview, physical agility, if you pass all that then you get invited to attend the police academy(about 22 weeks long).
In the academy you get weekly tests, PT and DT training, that all need to be passed. When and if you graduate the academy you become a "cop in training" and start the FTO program and learn how to be a cop. If you pass the FTO program you go out on your own and apply what you learned. Now your on probation for 1 year, when you reach your one year anniversary and get signed off probation you can call yourself a cop. It's a long process. To answer your question I guess it will be extremely hard to get a job as a police officer with all the hoops that you jump through. Good luck.

Having both militay and a degree is great and will put you ahead of many candidates. Plus some departments give extra credit for both on the test.

Our agency loves guys just out of the military. They've spent the last few years being ordered around and treated like dirt so they think they have it good now and don't complain like the nonmilitary brats do.

not at all! especially with your asc degree...i live in mi and got my asc in law enforcement...here they don't even require a diploma...only a ged...im not sure what state you live in...but here they require the MCOLES....its a phsyical and a written test that pretty much dictates if you get in or not...but with your background im sure you will be fine....why not MP?
