Yes you can "downgrade", but it will require you to have a full version Windows XP with a good cd-key. You will need to format or "wipe" the current OS "VISTA" off your hard drive and install XP. YOU WILL LOOSE ALL INFO ON THE CURRENT VISTA INSTALL IF YOU DO THIS. So back up whatever is important. MOST computers being sold today will run XP, you just may have to locate drivers for some of the components like video, network card, ect....

There is no way to downgrade or "roll back" from vista to XP without losing everything. In fact, this is actually a good thing. Vista is a complete system and if you got a system with Vista onit, there is no 'roll back' or restore available.
The best thing for XP is to format the drive and reinstall. This will bring you a better install of XP. Be sure to backup any and all files you do not want to lose (letters, music, etc.)

I haven't seen anything like that on my laptop. I don't think you even can downgrade but if you can let me know. I thought you could only make the computer look like xp not actually be xp.

If you have a Windows XP disk, install any copy of XP with any product key and then ring Microsoft to activate - you will then need to quote a non activated vista key and they will provide a activation key for the XP install.
