Hi,
I am trying to get a grip over my diet, as in what all do I eat in a day, when, and in what quantity. Whereas, I find it easy to record things eaten by number - fruits, chapatis etc, I find it hard to record rice. How do I measure(or approximate) amount of cooked rice taken? Sometimes ( or often) when I eat the cooked rice in 2-3 sittings, it becomes hard to know amount ate in each sitting. Any suggestions?

Thanks

- Are there any standard measuring cups available? And how much do they measure?

- I would know nutrition chart of 1 cup of uncooked rice, and I would need to get the translation factor from the 1 cup of uncooked rice to x cups of cooked rice, as cooked rice will get puffed up.

- Also the amount of puffing up will change depending on how long has the rice been kept etc, but yaa the idea of dividing into diff container seem very objective.

Hm. First I would take a measuring cup, measure one cup of cooked rice (for which you know the calories, yes?) and put it on a plate that you normally use. Look at what it looks like. Do this for half a cup and so on, so you can see what it looks like.

Next, you could measure 1 cup servings out and put them in separate containers in your refrigerator, and then you know how much you have eaten because when you get to the end of a serving you have eaten a cup of rice.

Or you could just use a 1/4 cup measuring cup as the "spoon" you use to serve up your rice! so you measure it as you scoop it out.

Addition: a half cup rice, cooked, varies from 90 (for instant rice) to 116 (for long grain brown rice) calories. When I was dieting, I used 100 calories per half cup as a guide.

Addition: If you are in the USA, you can pick up a standard 1 cup measure at any grocery store or hardware store or cooking store. If you're in another country, you might measure it differently. In this case, I would look on the rice package for calories, and would purchase whatever you measure with. I think things are weighed in some countries! Or tell us where you are and how your country measures things in general.

Hi! 1/2 cup of cooked rice equals 1 serving. If you are dieting brown rice is best but I always use white rice any way. Have a full cup of white rice and count it as two starches. Limit your starches to 6 daily and make sure to eat lean meats, veggies, fruit and 2 dairy each day with lots of water and walk for 30 min at least 3 times a week you will see a change. Whew! Hard work but worth it! Good Luck! ~ Cheri >^^<

Just pour it in a measuring cup and divide it into containers.
