What do you do to deal with it?

I have had treatment-resistant depression for most of my adult life. I take a cocktail of medications to manage it, but the medications only work for a few years before I habituate to them and have to rework the mix.

Even with the meds I still have periods of deep darkness. When the pain gets too awful and I start feeling actively suicidal, I have an atypical antipsychotic (Seroquel) that I can take as needed to stop the negative thought loops, as well as Valium to anesthetize my emotions.

What's really made a difference, though, is regular physical exercise. It was prescribed by my psychiatrist because it seems to be one of the few "magic bullets" they have against this particular type of depression. The prescription was to exercise six days a week, for 30-45 minutes, with a minimum of 20 minutes of high cardio (120-130 beats per minute); I haven't done it the last several weeks because my mother's recent severe illness and death completely scrambled my schedule, but when I was doing it regularly it made an obvious difference to my moods.

Certain practices of my religion, such as meditation and prayer, can also help to make the condition easier to bear.

If you have depression yourself, you have my sympathy. Hang in there. That's all any of us can do when it comes right down to it.

I am 21 and have struggled with depression since 15. I have taken all kinds of anti - depressants but the outcome of taking them is worse than depression itself (getting fat, not sleeping, acting almost like a tweaker etc...) I have come to christianity and have learned a balance in life in which I now have hope, I still go through phases as everyone does, but I can quickly get myself out of them with prayer and a good exercise.

I get depression occasionally, I deal with it in a few ways, i help people, I get out into nature and allow it to fill all of my senses, I meditate and pray, not in the Christians sense. I write in my journal to see if I can figure out why I am depressed. St. John's wort is great as a mood enhancer, but simple exercise often has a similar effect. It raises the endorphins. Hope you feel better soon. Remember, sometimes,we just have to feel our emotions, other times we get stuck wallowing in them, don't be a wallower, choose to feel them and then move on. :-)

I take it to Jehovah.
I throw my burdens upon Him.
Then, it's up to me.
Learn about it for 1 thing.

Fighting depression is called 'fighting" for a reason! ;~)
I force myself to carry on.
I MUST or I will wither away & die.
I have to many other ppl counting on me.
So, I push ahead.
If you don't... like a whirlpool...
it will suck YOU in
and smother any & all life out of YOU!

I am Not willing to accept the drugs
Dr.'s would have me put into myself,
for depression.
Example: side effects may include, but, not limited to:
diarrhea,consipation,stomach cramps,nausea,
sexual side-effects, tremors, social awareness,headaches,
severe menstral problems,vomiting, nervous shakes,
kidney failure, heart murmurs,stroke, migraines,
mild to severe swelling of the hands & feet, blurred vision or blindness in 1 eye, exaggerated facial hair growth, shrinking of the hair folicols, hair loss, death..................
Stop the Presses!!!! Pick 1 ;~) or better yet,
how about a 2-4-1 special.

I've discussed this w/ my Dr.
he specifically mentioned the
spiritual awareness & support,
to be helpful.
I also, take vitamins.
For my specific needs.
I'm on a heathly diet.
I try 2 get 2 least 30 mins., of walking er'day.
Drink a gallon of water, a day.

I do deal with depression in my life. Many times, I will put on praise and worship music and sing to the Lord til my depression lifts. Sometimes, I call a friend and just talk it out.

Every time, I pray. That is the one friend that always answers, always understands, always helps.

I've dealt with depression ever since I was 11 years old. How do I deal with it? Keep up on my meds, make sure the Dr. knows what's up with my moods, talk things out with my mom and boyfriend when things get tense. I'm usually perfectly fine when my meds are working--it's just a chemical imbalance in my brain.

I do from time to time. I used to ALL the time. As soon as I started to live for my family and for myself and not to some God or religion that I could never please my depression got infinitely better. The guilt is gone and the feeling of freedom is just unimaginable. The last thing I will ever do is go to a doctor. All they want is for you to be a slave to the pharmaceutical companies. I did get better on my own. I know I am lucky for that but I did, without the glorified drug dealers called doctors.

I can't say that I suffer from depression!
I can say that humans talk allot about "Faith".
I can say that humans don't talk enough about "Hope".

"Hope" is the precursor to "Faith".
"Faith is that immeasurable overflow from "Hope".
The next overflow from "Faith" is another word called "Charity".
People suffer from depression in general because of a lack of "Hope".

"Hope" gives one a reason to walk through this sojourn on earth with a positive attitude, that life is good.

May everyone have "Hope" in there life!
