hello, I am from germany and I have a significant problem: when I moved into a new town, my grandfather gave me his old raleigh-bycicle. In two weeks, ich have to move back tot the town where my family lives. The problem is: somebody stole the bycicle and now i need a new one. I don´t know the serial number or the name of the bycicle. I only know that it has been built around 1980. I don´t want my grandfather to know that his old bike was stolen, because I´m sure it would hurt him very much! When I move back, I´m sure he wants me to show him the bike...
does anybody of you know where I could get a new bike? It has the typical dark green colour, but I think that does not help so much... please, if you know anything that could help me, answer.

thank you!

Its gonna take some searching. If he liked the bike enough to be upset, he'd likely notice it isn't the same bike

Honestly, I'd just let him know that the bike was stolen if it wasn't done because of neglect. Sometimes this kind of stuff happens, and I'm sure he's not gonna take it out on you (I don't know the guy though - but if he's reasonable...)

I'm very careful, and I've had 2 stolen!

Let him know you're looking for a replacement for him.

If it is from the 80's it isn't quite a classic, so maybe you could give him something that is either nicer technology-wise, or pick up a classic and fix it up.

Check garage sales, craigslist, or other types of classifieds if you're determined.

To add to the helpful answers up above there, it sounds a little like the Raleigh Activator, which was one of the early affordable "suspension" bikes (I think it had about 1.5mm of suspension and ran on elastic bands). It came about in the late 80s and was dark green with lighter green splashes on it.
