All I have to say is: it's about time that someone decided that we should be moving in the direction of patriating illegal immigrants to become members of our society, rather than condemning them as sub-humans unworthy of calling themselves American.
I have no qualms about their breaking the law. The founding fathers were breaking British law when they declared independence. The abolitionists were breaking the law when they were helping black slaves reach freedom. It doesn't bother me at all to support the right thing, even when it isn't the legal thing. And I reject the fact that "they take our jobs", because that was the reason that northern states passed laws that required runaway slaves to be returned to their masters, it's bigotry, plain and simple.
Let's help the people who want to be Americans earn their citizenship. Making it harder does not make the problem go away, nor does it make anyone's lives easier.

I think it's about time one city proved that their xenophobic residents don't speak for the entire city as a whole. I think it's great and it might catch on in some other cities and states, but there will be some who will not do this. I agree with what you're saying about how sad it is when something turns out to benefit the immigrants(illegal), it equals terrorism. Those people who are like that are xenophobes who are afraid that the white population is going to be outnumbered(to tell the truth, it will be someday).

Illegals are breaking our laws. New Haven is harboring and abetting illegals and that is a crime also. If an immigrant is legal they wouldnt need the ID. It wont do them any good except in New Haven. What happens to them when they are over run with illegals that think the ID makes them legal? It will bring the economy of that town crashing. How is wanting our law enforced a witch hunt? We all want to see the laws enforced. We dont pick and choose which laws we like and disregard others.

I only wish the issue would be taken care of instead of politicized. Find a way to take care of these people and assist in making them tax paying citizens. We Americans need to stop being so insecure about our power and being afraid of loosing it to a group that may be culturally different then us.

Helping legal immigrants in our country is one thing. Aiding illegal aliens in our country is another situation altogether... Illegals don't deserve a break, they don't deserve amnesty, thier kids don't deserve citizenship, and they don't deserve to be here. The ones who take the time to follow the paperwork, and do things the legal way have every right to be here, and I have no problems with them. I just think it is wrong for the legals ones to spend time doing things correctly, only to have these other people, completely disreguard the laws, and bypass everything else...

The city is aiding and abetting Federal law breakers. they should all be charged. The illegals who go to get an ID should all be Deported as they come in to get one. If I were a business owner in that city I would refuse to accept that ID. There is no law that says I have to take it.

this is ridiculous. how is abiding by the law "bashing" anyone, but hose who break the law?
how is asking that laws be enforced a "witch hunt"?
my opinion is along the lines of the member of the legal immigration group - highly publicize this story so hopefully thousands more illegals will converge on this city and suck it dry.

I am ashamed to be from Connecticut now. Sad.
Here's an idea, when the illegals show up to apply arrest them and send them back.

What's 'illegal bashing'?
Hey, try this:
Sneak into Mexico, and then try living there as an "undocumented alien." I bet you would be in jail (ratted out by the locals) within 24-hours, even if you tried to keep a low profile, unlike most of our invaders!
