And cannot think for themselves?
Seems to me, that those who CAN think for themselves, and see the world as it really is, become ostracised by their christian neighbors.
Trust me, it's FAR better to stand on your own two feet and think for yourself, than to have some ficitional character in a book of bronze-age mythology (or rather the con men that pretend to speak for him) to do it for you.

lol...I've asked something similar before, and the vast majority who responded were perfectly happy to be called sheep.

Thinking hurts their little heads I guess.

Yes, Jesus called his followers sheep. He said "I know my sheep and my sheep know me"_John 10:16 This does not translate into "mindless" however. The alternative, independence from God, leads to disaster. It is what Adam and Eve chose at the prodding of Satan. Interesting how the argument has not changed in all these years. (Genesi 3:1-5)

My friend, YOUR mindset is the reason Jesus said forgive them for they know not what they do. Do you realize how fragile your OWN two feet are? In this day and age it should be painfully obvious to you that a terrorist could stand next to you and blow you and your two feet to kingdom come and you wouldn't know what hit you. You are at the mercy of CHANCE and TIME as is everyone. God is giving you an opportunity to fellowship with the one who gives you breath to form your words and you choose to ridicule Him? I am shaking my head with sadness...

No, but rather humble sheep. Those who live by their own understanding are prideful and repressive, even religious as if they could work their way to perfection/enlightenment. But it is the humble and repentant who admit they can't do it on their own and invite God to be the Lord of their lives to show them the way. The difference between religion and Christianity is that religion is about how you work your way up to God while Christianity is about how God got to you and He did it in the most amazing way through his Son Jesus Christ. He who has an ear let him hear.

So what is your question? I don't consider myself a mindless follower. Sheep trust the Shepard implicitly because the Shepard has never given them a reason not to trust him. I'm sure if a shepard beat and abused his flock they wouldn't follow him.

yes, this is true, this is why somebody coined the term "sheeple". religion promotes mindless thinking to make it easier to collect money from the sheeple. by blindly following orders, the handing over of money becomes second nature. religion is the largest money making enterprize that does not actually produce anything.

The bible uses sheep as a metaphor of the condition of mankind in a fallen world.

Isaiah 53:6 (King James Version)
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

No, the reason we call Christ the Shepherd, is because like a real shepherd, he takes care of his flock, and drives off the predators that would kill them. Like any good shepherd, he carefully counts his flock and goes off searching should one be lost.

I do grow weary of people saying that Christians are mindless. Mainly that's because most of the christian's I know are very smart and are even community leaders, and a few even have PHD's.

If you want to call me a sheep fine.
I'm not the one getting upset, but maybe I should.

I have a shepherd that leads me and guides me and fills me and shows me grace and mercy.

It seems like you don't have peace, but I hope you turn your life around. :)

He is called Shepperd because He has followers that look to Him for help when there is no other way. You should try it. Thanks for the question and have a great day!
