Hello, last week i was caught by the police because of doing shoplifting... they took me to the police station under arrest, did dna tests, drug test, photo, fingerprints... They gave me a copy of a record of caution, because i admitted the offence... I was wondering if now I have a police record in England? Im not English Im italian, Do they share it with the EU? Next week I will travel to Denmark and Im worried about being stopped by the police because of this and wont being able to enter again to england,,,, I know what i did was totally wrong, Im really sorry, I was so stupid, It was my first time and obviously my last one, but i didnt kill anyone, Is what I did too serious that now i cant enter england any more? Will I have any problems for entering in England again If I leave now to travel? What about jobs and education? Grazie

Yes you do have a criminal record in the UK and this is a permenant record of your offending history, fingerprints,DNA and photograph

Criminal records are not generally shared with other EU states unless a serious offence is commited, so dont worry to much there, the record that you have been arrested while visiting the UK will have been passed to the Italian Consulate in London though and probably back to Italy.

There will be no issues about you re-entering the UK after you have travelled, this was a minor offence and will not really go against you, for work it depends on what type of job you apply for and if your new employer wants a briminal record search done on your back ground, but again this was a minor offence dealt with my way of a caution so I wouldn't lose too much sleep, just dont make a habit of it !

Hi,

You should have had a sheet outlining all this when you received your caution. Basically, your caution for theft is not a criminal conviction as such, and so if you fill out a job application and they ask for details of any criminal convictions, you do not have to disclose your caution. As for being allowed back into England, you need to have a lot more than a police caution to be turned away.

I have only ever heard of a caution causing anyone a problem if it is for possessing cannabis and you are entering USA.

If it puts your mind at rest, I have recently heard of someone joining the police in the UK, and that person had a caution years ago for theft...Don't know if it's true, though

Who'se been a naughty MSS then ?

Look, it's a caution. Just that. No criminal record but they have your details. And so will anyone else who asks for them (other police forces)

Just be a good person from now on and things should be ok.

I have yet to meet a perfect person. Make sure everything has been settled and keep those papers handy if by some chance it's brought up. I doubt you'll have any trouble as long as everything is in black and white.

Anybody can get into england, I wouldn't worry about it, we accept terrorists I'm sure a shoplifter won't matter.
