I think he's silly, too, how he encourages Catholics to never vote for anyone who might be pro-choice. As a result they vote for warmongers who'd just as soon let all the poor kids in the country die.

Oh come on, according to Catholic doctrine, the Pope is infallible and can't be wrong on matters of the faith.
To the best of my memory Jesus said that He was the way the truth and the life and that no one comes to the father except thru Him. He also said that we now had a path to the Father and did not need an intercessor on our behalf, so we don't need the church as a means of salvation.
Now, admittedly, I haven't read the proclamation as the only version I could find was the one on the Vatican website and it's in Latin (very useful) so I'm going off news reports but there is no way that I can support this.
If Peter was the rock on which the church was to be built, what about all of the churches started by Paul? Or by people that were members of churches that Paul started that went out and started other churches? Are they not "real" churches? Are those people not saved?
Frankly I think the Catholic Church has strayed farther from the truth than many of the Protestant Churches. I also believe that it doesn't matter if you belong to the Catholic or Protestant church, it's about belief and changing your life.
I read somewhere that if I owned an ice cream shop then I would want everyone to think my brand of ice cream was the only one that would satisfy you. Maybe the same goes for churches.

This may sound strange because I'm really beyond atheism into the realm of anti-theism, but I feel strange when people criticize the Pope. I mean, he's the POPE! His job is to represent the most orthodox position humanly possible on all things Catholic. Of course he's going to say nutty things. Popes in the past have equated using condoms with abortion--anything that blocks life is against God. Now that's just kookoo.
But he's the Pope, for God's sake (literally!). You can't expect him to be reasonable or wise. I mean, why would he do something like point out sectarianism in the church when religious sectarianism is one of the world's most dangerous problems right now? Isn't it a politically sensitive time to do so, even if he's talking about another church? Wouldn't this be a better time to say, OK people, I see what madness this world has come to, and I'm going to instead say that we are all children of God and that's what my meditations have told me?
No, because he's the Pope, he's the Catholic Catholic Pope, and it's wrong for any of us to expect him to be more than that.

Hello there!
He had it correct when he said that there is ONLY ONE FAITH... But he has it wrong when he thinks it is his....
You have to understand the scriptures, and when you don't understand them you can not fall on the ole saying of "God works in mysterious ways" Today all to often when different ones go to their preacher or clergy with questions that they can not answer, their answer is the above. This simply is NOT true. There is an answer! Everything in the Bible is there for us and is for our understanding. You have to have faith, understanding, live your life with a Christ like personality, among many, many other things. One of the many things is that Jesus told us to go make disciples, this was a BIG thing. We are to let people know that soon God's Kingdom will bring about peaceful condtions. Soon war will be no more! So you see, while other denominations may think they are doing good, and doing all the above things, they are not doing one of the big major commands. They are not preaching, and for the few that do make an attempt to make some home visit, they do not try to make disciples. They do not try to REALLY teach them what the Bible says. God does hears the prayers of the ones who pray in the correct way. You have to have Faith, you need to pray through Jehovahs Sons name, Jesus.
Here is a link that talks about FALSE religion.

I say this, not trying to sound arrogant, or haughty, but with conviction.
I could add some more... but... I hope this clears some of this up...

1) The Pope did not say that Catholicism is the only way to salvation.
2) Catholics do not think like this.
3) Read the document for yourself. You can find at the website for the US Council of Catholic Bishops or The Vatican.

The Pope did not actually say anything on the subject. He simply approved a new document that states nothing new: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html
Most Christian denominations believe that each of them is the fullest version of the Church of Christ.
While the Catholic Church also believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she does not claim that non-Catholic Churches are not truly Christian. The Catholic Church teaches:
Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.
Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.
All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.
For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 819: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art9p3.htm#819
With love in Christ.

From what I understand from certain Catholics I know, a big portion of Catholics think the pope is wrong. I think the pope is wrong. I'm not a Catholic, so I guess it doesn't really matter, now does it? Still, I think he's wrong. And a few other things I can't say in public.

That the true church is based upon the authority of Christ through the keys given to the apostles? That is correct. That he holds the keys and authority? That is the flaw. The bishop of Rome lost any such power and authority centuries ago.

Right and wrong are judgments. If you believe in God, then, is God Perfect or not? If God is perfect, What could possibly be Right or wrong in creation? God is the creator, not man, yet we always take what IS an put our judgments upon it. Any human view cannot supersede the plan or functions of perfection.

Look at the Pope sitting in his gilded chair in his gilded hall, opulence all around him, and ask yourself, "would Jesus approve of that?"
Since as early as the 2nd Century AD the Catholic church has been about power and control. Most historians think that the church prohibiting literacy and education extended the dark ages by hundreds of years. Doesn't that make you seriously queasy to think that the Catholic church actually stunted the growth of Western Civilization?
