From what I understand; everybody will bow down.. or kneel. and sing his praises and say that he is God, or something along those lines.
The gist is that everybody will know for certain, and will give in to acknowledge it, and the Jewish will finally have their savior.
but it's said that people will turn away from him. can you believe it? Legit son 'a frikkin God, and they STILL don't listen to the guy. Just goes to show that some people can't be pleased.
As for how I think it would effect politicians? Allow me to give an example:
"We have come to a realization that God has come to earth. we have two options. We can A) make sure everybody worships them so we don't lose face, or B) we can bomb Jerusilum in the hopes to destroy him, because nobody should be that powerful."
They'd probably try to reason and negotiate with Jesus (or whatever he wants to be known as). As if he WASN'T already in control. he'd listen, but he'd only change things if he kept the big picture.
But I digress: no, not everyone would obey him, and politicians would have one more rank above them.

If Jesus returned in an earthly form and started preaching his *seditious* message of universal love and appreciation for what really matters in life, i think he'd quickly find himself the victim of extraordinary rendition and be transported to Guantanamo Bay.
I'm an agnostic but appreciate the beauty of Jesus's teachings.
Update: From what i know he wanted people to choose to follow him, many would but i really believe there are some that just couldn't live that kind of life.
And yes, many politicians would be in the second group in my view.
Cracked up laughing, imagining Tony Blair's shock on realising he isn't the *Second Coming* if the real Jesus turned up.=)

if any being comes and proves that it's got supernatural powers, the only way to get everyone to obey would be to take over their minds or install a system of coersion like the one that existed under totalitarian regimes.
as to the "comes back" bit... that means that in order to even consider the question i have to believe that the whole story happened the way christians belive to begin with. that premise doesnt apply to people who dont believe.

After reading some of the answers you gotten, I feel sorry for some of these people. Jesus IS the son of God. He wants us to love him. I would do what ever he wanted. I am ready to go to Heaven. You don't have to be a religious fanatic. Just turn your life over to him, ask for forgivness and lead a good life. Nobody is asking you to be perfect. Praise Jesus.

I very much doubted if anyone wanted to have anything to do with him.Believing in him spiritually is one thing , but opening your door to let someone claimed to be son of god to come into your sitting room in the middle of the night is quite a different matter.

Well, he came to earth before and proved he was the son of God. What reaction did he get then?

No. In fact, those who have doubted will probably be even more against Him since they fear Retribution. There will be some who see the light and some who won't. Remember, we were created with Free Will.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if jesus came back and could prove he was the son of god, the christians would be out of business. So they'd kill him. Again.

i am ever so grateful of my salvation. something so priceless an everlasting. i am ever so happy to know that i don't need to wait for that day to start worshiping him. i worship him everyday. the holy spirit is around me so i am forever on cloud nine. its a shame some people need to see big miracles in order to accept Jesus. i love him so much because he gave up so much so that i may live. i will forever tell the world of his good deeds wherever i go.
he died and rose after 3 days. he conquered death and through him i am now worthy enough for the father to look at me and not judge me. i pray that one day everybody in this world would get to experience this everlasting love that casts out all fear.
