It all depends on what the consumers' needs are and what the ingredients are.
Believe it or not, many times the same product labeled as "the cheapest", "the store brand" or generic is the exact same product as the
well-known national brand. The ONLY difference is the packaging and/or labeling.
It all comes down to reading and understanding the product's ingredients. Its the law: ALL
pre-packaged food products for human consumption MUST have the ingredients listed from the most amount of a particular ingredient to the least amount of another particular ingredient.
When I shop, I look for the ingredients and for the nutritional information. THEN comes the price per pound. "You get what you pay for."
The last price I look at: how much I'm charged for the item at the register.
I wish you well!

This is an interesting ?.
There are many brands I buy because My Mom did, and it's a connection to her-- werid. And I know it's werid. But she's gone and I miss her and sometimes using something she did makes me feel better. She's been gone 7 years.
Other things I reach for the store brand.
For example: the store brand bread is great. Cheaper then other brands, and tasty and higher in fiber. Amazing.
I think it' s all a matter of reading the labels, and tasting.
I think most of the stuff is all coming from the same Main company, just different grades or levels of food.
If it's a main ingred., I go for the best, name brand.
If it's a small part of the meal, or recipe, I can take the store brand which I think is not as good sometimes as the name brand.
I'm looking forward to reading the other replies.

i buy both depending on what the use is... also another factor to look at is economic situation. If your late on your rent and tight on cash store brands can help you out alot.
But many store brands get their products from name brands and just put their store name out it. a good example is wal mart. Like five months ago they had a recall on penut butter. the only brands recalled were Jiffy and Great Value.. why?... becuase they are made in the same place, making it the same product...
some premium products taste better that supermarket brands
the point is, get what taste best, if they taste the same dont spend extra money for the premium brand

Most no name products are not produced by the supermarket, they are produced for the supermarket, by the same people who make and package the more expensive brand name products. A man would be a damned fool to pay top dollar for the same product, the only difference being the brand name.
Once it's out of the package, there's no difference.

Yes, I buy the store brand a lot when it comes to things like paper goods and incidentals. On foods I mostly buy the premium brands.

Both. But sometimes brand name canned goods are on sale for cheaper than store brand. And they're all processed the same, just different labels, so I just look at the price. But there are some things I just have to get name brand. Like instant potatoes. The Safeway brand sucks so I get Potato Buds. And I always get Tillamook cheddar blocks and Kraft American cheese. It just depends I guess.

Depends on what I am buying. I buy Asda's own for soup, chicken nuggets, and a few others. I buy premium bread, because there is a difference, and I only buy Betty Crocker cake mixes, because the store brands are rubbish

Yes & no, we buy water, some vegtables (can) & fruit (can) from the store brands but mostly we stick to the brands we normally buy for all other products. They seem to have the same taste and shelf life all other products do.
