How corrupt is the Mexican government? Why do so many people from Mexico want to come to the US as opposed to improving the country in which they live? What does the Mexican government do to provide opportunities for their own citizens?

I'm just really curious to know more about how the Mexican government feels about the whole situation of illegal immigration into the US....Do they care? Do they support it? Are they doing anything to control it?

The Mexican Govt has it's own little policies and no Constitution really to speak of. If you ever get a chance to read their Constitution you will notice that all the rights written only protect those who hold land and have ancestors from Spain. They have no Federal or state tax system to keep monetary spending in check and how to use it. When you go to the local grocery stores (not near border towns but farther in) you will notice that there is no sales tax. No one pays taxes on wages and no set wage. There is no insurance for health care / cash only/ automobile insurance is really nothing but enough money to keep you from going to jail when you hit someone. Some communities are just getting piped in water from the major cities but still 82% of Mexicos pueblas and ranchitos are run on well water - and I mean the pull up from the well with a bucket kind. Some isolated areas have been able to put in a pumping system - most are run on gasoline not electricity - so it only runs certain times of the week. All drinking water is bottled and distributed to those who purchase a monthly contract for delivery and that is even in the major cities. Now, why in the world would a country like that want to come here? They have tried many times for water treatment and conservation bill to pass and the Govt doesn't have the money to do it and won't. They have complained about substandard housing in many areas, no to the aged housing bill, don't have money to build the homes. No to a national healthcare system - no to federal assistance for the poor, sick, and elderly.
The only money that their Govt makes is from companies paying export tax, business tax, (the right to open a business), and land dealings and taxes from the lands. They also receive money from the underhanded people such as drug cartels, black market, and trade agreements, but those are not reported to the general public.
You have to remember, most of the people of Mexico up until 1998, had no more than a 6th grade education or less. Secondary schooling (high school) is mostly a trade school. University is expensive when you do not have a grant or federal loan system in place. So the Mexican govt has preyed on these people based on their limited education and money that they do not have. Now they send their families here to get a better education and live a better life because they can not in their own country, but now that the first and second generation are more educated and understand political policy more the Mexican govt is afraid that they will come back and make them be the country that America is so they look the other way. When I was down there to visit family last year there was several new offices opened up in the several of the major cities we visit. They are govt offices to help people get visas and transportation to the border to go to America and Canada. To get these documents and travel assistance you make a deal that you send 10% of all money earned to their office to pay off the assistance for one year. You may send any amount over that to your family, they don't care but they want proof you are sending money home and it will be up to a relative to bring these documents to them each month. These offices are not easily seen and many people that have applied for legal status to America are actually being transferred to these offices instead.
So there is your answer on why they can not and will not do anything with their own country. Ignorance is bliss - someone said, but they didn't live in Mexico or any other 3rd world country.

What else can the United States government do to help them. NAFTA was created to help out the economies north and south of our borders. The problem is with their government. Our own president tells us what a proud people the Mexicans are, yet they aren't too proud to call us racists and break our laws. They aren't proud to be United States citizens, because they aren't. They aren't proud to be Mexican citizens , because they leave when the times are tough. The only way conditions will change there is if they stand up, and demand that their own government provide the things they need to become a prosperous nation.

The mexican gov. Needs to be purged. What the drug cartels have done with it is a shame . The reason this has happened is because the people didn't have the guts to stand up against them. So where was all that orgullo mexicano than. Now they are trying to bring in all that corruption to the u.s.a.. We have enough we don't need their's too. With our elected politians not listening to the cry of the nation, & allowing illegal immigration run rampant. Knowing that terrorists, killers, cheats & drugs are being brought in along & by the illegal aliens themseves.

The Mexican government has a long tradition of being rife with corruption, which really is a shame. If the government could clean up its act, then they could begin straightening out some of the problems in their country, especially the rampant crime and extreme poverty in the north. Most of the illegal immigrants are nortenos fleeing for a better life; the coyotes who smuggle people for exorbitent fees--and sometimes leave them to die if law enforcement gets too close--are selling out their own countrymen. Basically, they are committing human rights violations.

Mexico is basically controlled by the drug lords now, many who are in the Mexican "army" are defecting over. The Mexican President loves the fact that his people can illegally cross the border and promotes it, that way he doesn't have to lift a finger to help. It's called passing the buck.
