I am thinking of buying a mac book but i use microsoft powerpoint a lot. So i was wondering if you can like use microsoft powerpoint on your mac and then play the slide show on a pc? I know you can do this like with word, excel etc but someone told me that for powerpoint you have to change the formats and stuff and sometimes it does not work when you play it on a pc. Is this true?

I am sure it's possible that you don't need to change the format. All Office Programs use the same extensions as far as I know.

Yes, you can create PowerPoint presentations on Macintosh and they will play on PCs. You do not have to change a formats (the file formats are identical).

It is also possible to create presentations that contain objects that are not yet supported on Windows. Most notably, QuickTime support in Windows PowerPoint is abysmal (something like only up to version 3 of QuickTime). Use AVI file format for movies if you want them to play cross-platform.

Yes, Mickysoft has Office for the Mac. The resulting file formats are interchangable/compatible with Windows.

Yes there is Office for Mac, and the files can be used on either system. But sometimes the fonts, especially special characters like bullet points or arrows, can go a little wrong. Usually this isn't a problem, although if you are planning on using it for scientific presentations greek letters can go screwy sometimes as well.
