Because they feel that they are above the law. It really pisses me off when I see this. I one time had a cop, with flashing lights, come flying up behind me on a country road. I pulled over and got out of his way, and off he flew. I came up to him about 3 minutes later, where he had pulled off the road and set up with his radar gun. Clearly he had not had an emergency he was going to, he just wanted to have some fun. These guys should be fired for that kind of crap. Nobody should be above the law, regardless of if they wear a uniform.

No EMERGENCY THAT YOU KNOW OF! Yep, even the lowly police officer has means of communication that you can't tap into! Ain't technology great!?

If they were responding to a hostage situation in your home, you might just want them to hurry up ... and be real quiet about it!

I don't care about "the word on the street"! 90% of the time an officer is speeding ... there is a good reason, even when there is no lights and siren going. I'll give you a 10 % "hot dog factor" (I am being really generous here!)

You say "some aren't in uniforms" ... are they in marked cars? If not ... how do you know they are cops? Could they just be SPEEDERS?

Under normal circumstances, most cops that hve been on the force for a while ... will not speed, they have already been witness to the effects of "deceleration trauma" on the human body!

For those not in the law enforcement field, and who do not engage in sky diving ... Deceleration trauma is the extreme damage to the human body caused when that body rapidly looses momentum after striking A) The ground, or other object that is considered immoblile or B) An object moving along a different trajectory, as in an approaching vehicle!

Most cops know the real penality for speeding is not meted out in a court of law, it has more to do with the physical laws of the universe!

Do you justify what is and is not an "emergency"? Do you have a radar in your car? Do you have calibrated eyes? This question has been touched on before...There are calls that require emergency responses but do not require the use of lights and sirens...For instance a bank robbery at noon on a Friday. This at the least requires no siren. Well, unless you would like to warn the suspect or suspects and cause a hostage situation. A dometic battery at 1 am. This is no lights or siren. Lets not tip off the guy his wife called with an audible or lights bouncing off the neighbors house. He would beat her more for calling the police. Think about it...There are times and placess for everything. I personally drive slower when I am not going to a call just to look at things. I typically drive faster when I go to a call. Any type of call for that matter...If I call for a pizza I want that thing here now. If someone calls for the police they probably want them now...The ones that aren't in uniform are probably on a detail...By the way, I have never written a speading ticket because I speed!

"I know because my dad was a cop!"

I'm really impressed that you know his job so well!

"All cops are crooked!"

And I suppose all the people who post such absurd statements are stupid!

"Because they're above the law!"

No...cops are not above the law and normally have more to lose than the average citizen if they break the law.

One can't help but laugh! My question to you is how do you KNOW they weren't on an emergency or some other mitigating circumstance?!

Because our system of anti-law enforcement exists, there are fewer officers and budgetary dollars to go around. You get less when you pay less. When working with less...whats available works harder to get to those calls where the first thing out of the complainants mouth is "what took you so long" which law enforcement would love nothing more than to have some relief of all the nonsence calls on top of the real problematic calls.

Just my humble opinion...but I'm SURE you've been above the limit a time or two as well. So quit whining unless you KNOW what was going on!

I am a county sheriffs deputy in a county wit a population of around 20,000. its mostly rural and there are only 2 deputies on shift to cover the entire county. some calls such as prowlers and suspicious people and suspicous car dont necessarily require lights and sirens. but rather a timely response. if we were to do the speed limit for these such calls, we would never answer all the calls cause we would run out of time.

Is it possible that they had been called to an emergency and while on the way, were called off? Uniforms aren't that important. Obviously they were in a patrol car, otherwise you wouldnt know they were cops. Could it be they are plainclothes officers?

some calls don't meet the requirements of a lights and siren response.(code 3) but ask yourself if someone you loved was getting beat up, house was just burglarized, crazy man at the front door, missing, etc...how soon would you want the cops to arrive?

DANG! They do in your town too?

Heck they skip lights, blow their horns at people without a siren to have the right of way (so you know it isn't an emergency), land on the wrong lane making turns but if *we* do it we're game for a baton beating!

Then they wonder why people hate cops... "It's only the criminals that complain," right?

They'll give you some BS like it was a silent call. Truth is, everyone likes to speed. They can get away with it, so they do. Just like when you tell your kids not to eat candy and junk food, but when they're not around, you do.

Silent alarms are not BS, and most cops have taken defensive driving courses.
