No.
The A-10 Warthog, or thunderbolt has a front mounted 30 mm rotary cannon that fires straight ahead.

You may be thinking about the C-130 gunship. Also known as "puff the magic dragon"

no the a-10 was designed for and nicknamed the tank killer it has a 30 mm GE GAU-8 Avenger cannon mounted under the nose of the plane and it uses this to attack the weakest point on the tank the top. the a-10 dives from straight over the tank and concentrates the 30 mm cannon fire on the top of the tank where the armor is the thinnest. if it is a particularly well armored tank or if the dive was not performed well enough they also carry a couple anti tank rockets undre the wings that can be employed at the end of the dive for better effect. a couple a-10's can decimate a tank battlion pretty quickly with minimal effort. it is amazing to watch.

Nope, the A-10 was built specifically to hold the Vulcan Cannon that is mounted in its nose and is so powerful that a long burst from it produces enough thrust to override the plane's engines and stop it dead in the air if fired for longer than a few seconds.

There IS a plane known as a Specter (Spooky) Gunship that mounts mini-guns and a howitzer in its side and is converted from and AC-130 Hercules transport plane to carry these weapons. That might be what you are thinking of.

*edit*
Corrected to the AC-130. Sorry Civil Av8tr!

N O, That is the AC-130 that has side mounted
weapons including a 105mm howizter!! The plane flies around in a circular orbit and kills anything in a 100 yard area. This is the Spector or spooky. In Vietnam, we used to call the plane "Puff The Magic Dragon."

no Although the A-10 can carry a considerable weight of disposable stores, its primary built-in weapon is the 30 mm GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling gun. One of the most powerful aircraft cannons ever flown..

I don't believe so. The original plane had a gun mounted in the nose in addition to the ordinance mounted under the wings. The gun was made by GE, I believe. It was called the GAU-8, and was a 30mm.

It does not, but you may be thinking of "one" of the attack helicopters. "It" has the capability of turning side to side in conjunction with the pilot/weapons specialists head. (Turn your head left, weapon turns left.)

The A-10 is essentially a 30mm canon with a tub for the pilot and an aircraft built around it. (they sound so awesome when firing, outgoing sounds much better than incoming!!)

Its the AC-130, not the C-130. I know it's just a technicallity, but I'm a aircraft nut.

I agree with several others, I think your thinking of the AC-130 gunship... That thing is awesome. And if you ever have a chance to see, and hear, one do its job, its one hell of a sight and sound...
