Why is it that I see a lot of people on here (mostly liberals) who pity our troops? Why do they always assume that our troops are brainwashed and simply fighting for Bush and his agenda? Our troops are not fighting for some guy sitting behind a desk 6,000 miles away, regardless of whether it's Bush, or Clinton, or whoever it may be. They did not join the military expecting not to fight. They are over there fighting with HONOR, fighting for our country, our countrymen, and their fellow soldiers right alongside them. They couldn't care less about the oil, or politics, or any of that other crap you people seem to think that they are only fighting for. If you are a veteran, please speak up, because I know you're with me with first hand accounts. I'm just sick of these people showing pity on the troops when they haven't a single CLUE what it is like to be fighting overseas, except for what they see on TV. So please, give it some thought, and give me a rational answer.

Let me just add that by pity, I mean looking down on them without showing respect.

Isis: I don't take people feeling sorry for family members as a bad thing. Anyone in their right mind does that. I disagree, however, with those who disrespect the troops because THEY feel they are over there for the wrong reasons. Whatever the soldiers reasons may be, who are they to judge?

Amen, brother. They hold the responsibility, which they knew they'd have, of being this nation's strength and to be utilized at a moment's notice and to die if needed. These men and women are the best of us.

Well having been over there the first time...I am proud to support the troops, especially the US Marines. Most of the people think that they can control Bush, and they are too liberal to support the effort.
I have talked to some and made them realize that if it were not for the veterans that came before me they could not be out there protesting the war. Look you can hate Bush...I do not care. But there are troops in harms way all over the world and they deserve all the respect that this country can give to them and more.
People like the Speaker of the House have turned the whole thing into a fiasco. All that I have to say is that since 9/11 there has not been an attack on this great country and I think that it is in no small part to the efforts of the finest fighting force in the World!!!

Well, Im from a military town..( Warner Robins AFB in Ga.) and I know that we feel a deep sense of pride for our military men and women and we show our support for them but I do know that I also feel remorse for their families and for them as well. Yes, they willingly signed up for the military and they are fighting with honor but that doesnt change the fact that they are probably still scared and homesick and that their wives and husbands dont have their partners at home and their children miss them terribly and are worried sick about them. I support our troops but I also see the other side of it as well, so dont judge.

In viet nam people against the war took it out on the people who were fighting it.
Since than, and since many of the people fighting had to fight in Nam got attacked when they got back and many people like myself grew up with them as teachers, uncles, fathers, etc. But they told the stories of how hurtful it was when they came back.
So. Now people who apose the war, try not to take it out on the people fighting it. Hate the sin not the sinner. SO that when the war is over the stigmata is not put on the people fighting it but the person ordering it.
Even though it is a volentery, people went in looking for a college education and ended up fighting a war they really didn't want to go to. People have been called up who had been out, People have been forced to go back 2 and 3 times. I have talked to mother and fathers who have had to go back 3 times, leaving grandma with the kids. What if they BOTH died? Than the kids are without any parent.
Your choice was to fight, for what ever reason. You think it is honorable. You think you are fighting for your country.
I wont point out what everyone knows.
But NOT everyone WANTS to be there. Not everyone over there thinks like you either. I have talked to them too. I have talked to people like yourself, and people who are not wanting to go, just was the only way they thought they could get higher ed. THere are a lot of type of people in the armed forces.
And people who are against the war are trying not to hate or blame the people fighting it. You take it as pitty. Or looking down. Some people might. But it is better than hating you for it. Or calling you all sorts of other names, like in Veit Nam. But not all people who hate the war "look down" on the fighters. Some like myself realize that people are there for diffrent reasons. Some actually want to just be killing machines. Yup meet those too. Some have an over the top ideal of patritism. Some idealized the armed forces and the reality was diffrent than thier grandfather's generation, or the movies. Some just wanted to make a better life for themselves.
But there is NOT ONE type or way of thinking in the military. You have one view point. The person next to you has another.

So, our troops are not fighting for Bush and his agenda, they are not fighting for the 'lot of people (mostly liberals) who pity them' , they 'don't care about oil, politics, or any of the crap people think they are fighting for'... I understand they are fighting with HONOR, for the US and with other soldiers... and what was that cause again?

I have pity for anyone that is in a very bad situation that they did not expect, or bring upon themselves, Especially if they got there due to LIES. This includes war--court--prison or any other BAD situation that they did not expect, or bring upon themselves.
