That's a tricky one! Check the mail before her, have someone else check the mail before her. If you have plenty of time, you could rent a monthly P.O. box and get a credit card with that address on it, specifically for this transaction. You may also call the company and explain to them the situation. Some companies have a bill to address and a ship to address, it seems like a company like this would be willing to work with suprises! Best wishes!

since u said they wont ship it anywhere else u can try to follow the tracking and estimate when it will arrive at the house and see if any of her/ your mutual friends can keep her busy that day or ask a trusted friend or family member to intercept the mail before she does. its tricky but it can be done. every year my dad orders vermont teddybears for my stepmom and has them shipped to the house and she has never caught on cuz my dad has the art of stealing the mail down to a science...the key is not take in all the mail especially if she usually does that cuz that might make her suspicious. only grab what u need to out of the box and leave the rest so she suspects nothing...i learned that when hiding the report card haha

You could ask the company who they usually use to ship their merchandise. FedEx, UPS, etc. Once the company has verified the ring has been shipped, request a tracking number and then call the shipping company. They can tell you the main hub where your ring will arrive to before it's shipped to your house. You can request that they hold the ring in their facility and that you would like to pick it up from there. I had to do this with my table linens for my wedding. They shipped them a day late so I got the tracking number and called 1-800-FedEx and they confirmed where it would be sent to based on my area. They marked the box to be held and it was there waiting for me!
Good luck with the package and the proposal! :)

Printoff a picture of the ring including specs and take it to a jewler. Ask them to make it for you. They will probably try to get close to the price of the online ring if not less and you won't have to worry about it getting lost cross country. I'm an interenet shopper but there are a few things even I wouldn't buy online without seeing it in person first...

Pretty risky, Sir.
Diamonds can look similar to the naked eye but the quality can be quite different.
Most shippers will ship merchandise to another address, other than the charge address.

I agree - don't buy something like that on line.
How about commissioning a jeweler in your area to create a one-of-a-kind ring for her. She'd have a ring - or ring set - that nobody else has - for about the same price that a commercial chain would charge.

Ask if they ship by FedEx, then get the tracking number. Keep following it and you will know when it arrives in Australia. Then, stay at home and answer the door!

I would not buy something like that online...you're really trusting. Isn't there some jeweller locally you can buy the ring from and save yourself all this trouble?
Even if she doesn't open the box, the return address will be a real giveaway, won't it?

tell them that you are in the middle of moving and you haven't had a chance to change the address on your card and then mail it to your work or parents house or whatever

I did a wire transfer with http://www.uniondiamond.com and had it delivered to my work address. I did not have it delivered overseas.
Open a new credit card with your work address if possible.
