...............when the thought of fundamentalists (muslim OR christian) controlling world governments instills so much fear in most of us?

Isn't the "live & let live" attitude to religious beliefs a bit like burying your head in the sand to the dangers that fundamentalism presents?

Because concerning themselves with what others believe is the identifying mark of the fundamentalist. Think about it - if they weren't so concerned about changing other people's beliefs to match their own, they wouldn't be so frightening. So why would we want to take up that same trait, try to force people to be less fundamentalist, and become as terrifying a beast as they are?

A "live & let live" attitude is our only real, effective weapon against those who would control others beliefs.

Its a low punch. But still, lets take a minute to think about what Goverments that were explicitly atheists and didn't allow religious freedom did and are doing for us all.

You don't want religious freedom, what do you propose as an alternative? Missing link, you're talking a lot like a christian or muslim fundamentalist, and also scaring me just as much....

If everyone lived and let live, we wouldn't have to worry about what fundamentalists were up to, because there wouldn't be any.

In any case - what right do you have to control the beliefs of another person? Concern with other's beliefs is a step towards trying to control them.

Fundamentalism is quite different than moderate, reasonable belief and yet it seems that a certain group on this forum condemns ALL belief. Why is that?

"live and let live" is not a permission to complacency regarding the environment and community wellbeing....Complacency is a big problem...You know whether or not you can be bothered to vote and in Australia where it is compulsory whether or not one is actually informed enough to vote is immaterial.'Head in the sand'beginning to end...Ah but then there is the manipulations of the pollies....Hey,its all so confusing........

Well exactly. You could draw a Nazi analogy, for example, and say that bad things can happen when people who aren't necessarily directly involved ignore the actions of other people.
