Eric,

So many answers and still no clear or correct one that makes sense.

Here is what Revelation 13:18 says:

Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the numberof the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Here John capitalizes on the metaphors, symbolism, and figurative expressions borrowed from the Old Testament. He knew that only those who are wise and have a proper understanding of truth, would be able to make the connection between the riddle he gives here, and the reality of what the “number of the beast” is.

How foolish the world has become. How arrogant and deceived are those who unknowingly carry the mark of the beast prominently displayedin their right hand and in their forehead, yet ignorantly believe they would never allow anyone to mark their right hand with 666, which they have erroneously named the “mark of the beast.”

Look carefully at the actual text, and you will note that John did not write “666 (“six hundred threescore and six”) IS the mark of the beast, nor did he say “666” is the number OF THE BEAST. He specifically and purposefully wrote that the number “666 corresponded to” the “number of the beast, which is the numberof A MAN, and his number is six hundred threescore and six.” Neither did John say: “is the number of man (as in ‘mankind’),” but he specifically wrote: “is the number of a man,” meaning a particular man. That particular manto whom John was pointing those who “hath understanding,” is Solomon. “His number” corresponds to “money,” as in the amount of “gold” he received in a one-year period:

Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one yearwas six hundred threescore and six talents of gold. (I Kings 10:14)

Unlike other works authored with the same purpose (to explain the book of Revelation), this book crushes all the uninspired rhetoric put forth in past and present works, which are full of imaginative prose and interpretation that, when contrasted with the truth, will surely fall significantly.

If you read the book, you will understand ALL of Revelation.

Hi!

Revelation 13, 18 has led to several interpretations. One is that the number represents the Roman numerals in the title Vicar of Christ - one of the pope's titles. This theory claims that the preceding verses refer to the inquisition and the EEC (Treaty of Rome), which now makes it difficult for people to trade or even for some to open a bank account unless they buy into its weird legislation - or worship and bear the mark / pin number of the beast. The beast can not be an individual man, the argument goes, so it must be a title that goes to men in succession, a position. Those advocating this line of thinking say that the Emperor of Rome bore the title which the Popes inherited when the Roman Empire used the emerging church as its tool to maintain power on realizing its political and military hold was slipping.

Of course, there are many other theories.

Good wishes.

666 is the Greek Numerological value of the full title of Emperor Nero.

Interestingly enough, texts in the original language used 616, because 616 was the equivalent numerological value of the full title of Emperor Nero in the original text.

Turns out, the preterists are right about Daniel and Revelations. They were both fulfilled, Daniel long before Yshua bar-Ysef's coming, Revelations by the end of the 2nd Century AD.

Some believe that John actually knew the name of the Beast. But it wouldn't be any good to write it down. So he used it in a numerical form. Some also say the Anti-Christ will be like Nero Caesar. 7 is the number of perfection (of God), 6 is a counterfeit.

The number 666 was the Emperor Nero's address in biblical times and he was considered by the christians of the time as the devil. That said, if they believed the devil was a human living on the Earth, why do christians believe now in a seperate being that lives in a made-up place called hell?

In Zechariah 13 we read that God uses the symbolism of 1/3 for all true believers and 2/3 for all non-believers, the unsaved:

"And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God." - Zechariah 13:8,9.

1/3 = .333
2/3 = .666

It has been said to stand for the name of the roman emperor Nero, a famous persecutor of christians. Using a cipher (I forgot which one), you can add all the letters of Nero, using the jewish(?) alphabet, you'll get 666

I heard 666 wasn't even the real number. That it correlated with Nero Iulius Caesar. I believe in God, by the way, but this f$&*d me up when I heard about it.

I dunno what the hell is going on to be quite honest.
