First, ignore answer number one...no doubt an Atheist.
Practice the fruits of the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentlemess, and self-
control). Just being this kind of person who emits the
above wonderful practices will be an effective witness for
Jesus. Some Christians have a ministry to visit the sick,
the lonely, and shut-ins who have no hope. Some desire
to be a leader in the church, teaching children the Bible
or other duties in the body. The opportunities are endless.
Bring others to your church so they too can know the Lord,
The Creator, and the Savior and His goodness and blessings.

First pray, read God's word, pray some more. Go to church, and live your life according to what God commands of us. When others see Christ through you, you can be an effective witness. Pass out gospel tracts. Walk up and talk to them. Go visit a Nursing Home. One of the best things I have found that really speks to ones heart the most is telll them what Jesus did for you.

Why would you want to become a figure of ridicule? Believing in something which does not exist, cannot exist?
First find the proof, then tell everyone else about it but, trouble is, you will never find it because it doesn`t exist.
Get wise.

Go back in time by praying REALLY HARD to 2000 years ago. Talk to the man. Come back and let us all know what you "witnessed".

You must first begin in the word itself. The "practice" of witnessing..an example..if you are a member of a church, the church itself should have in place a particular time of the week that members visit. You can gain much in fellowship with others who witness in this manner.

However, witnessing is a daily, from the moment you awake.. ongoing part of every day life. The ways in which you treat others,family,co-workers,etc can be as effective as any set time to knock on doors or fellowship with others.
Beginning your days and ending your nights in the word strengthens your spirit which then allows God to work through you. Jesus, if you recall.rebuked the public display of prayers and actions by the Pharisees. Their attempts to call attention to themselves, and so often it is so very human to do so, was not of the Holy Spirit. Yet, these people were highly regarded in their "religion". It is not "religion" which saves.
I would suggest that you read the Book of Acts of the Apostles themselves. Although Acts is the chapter before Romans,,I would suggest reading Romans first...within it are the keys to the spirit of the life of Christ, the righteousness of faith given to each of us through HIs grace. Without an understanding of this grace, faith, and the spirit of witness..it is easy to become as the Pharisees.
In your daily life it may seem that opportunities are few to speak directly to those who may not know Christ as their personal savior. Once you begin to reach out to others, often it will lead you to their pain, to things in their lives that burden them. As Jesus told us..there is no greater love than a friend who will give his or her life for a friend..and everyman should be, for a christian, a friend. Whether or not we appove of their lifestyle, their motives, the way they treat others...we are commissioned to a higher calling. We are expected to rise above racism, criticism, strife, pettiness..He cannot work through us unless we give up self; most difficult to do.
The word inspires and without it we struggle needlessly. It is He who transforms people, changes spirits, gives grace and mercy...not we ourselves. We cannot lose sight of His purpose.
Miracles do happen, I have witnessed them myself..but only when I stepped aside and allowed Him to be glorified.
Walking in faith, in the word, and calling on His power in all things, you will find that opportunites to tell others of His love and sacrifice for them will be endless. Sometimes it only takes a word from you, a kindness, a hug. We are told that the least of these things are a witness for Him.
I also suggest that you think of a person(and we all know them) that others have already given up on.Perhaps even family and friends have given up, the church may have given up...makes no matter. You begin by praying diligently for this person...draw from the Lord's power...after all, he promises us over and over that through him we cannot fail. Now, you may not see immediate results, you may not see results in years, results may not come in your lifetime. The point is, God will..in His own time, and perhaps not even through you, someone else may be the vessel, well, he will never forsake this person. What we gain by praying for others is immeasurable and often the first step toward selflessness.
Just remember He is the master of the universe, he promises us His power can and will work through us...He promises us this...it helps as He instructed...just to..."Be still and know that I am God." I will remember you in prayer also.

How to be an effective witness? Hmm... you could start with a vow of silence. That would be nice.

Sure, read your bible, understand it, comprehend it, find if it is logical.

If you cannot believe or understand what is your book talking about, you are but a half baked cookie, who are you to bare witness?

the answers are in the bible, too many to list here, just remember that Jesus drew people to himself by being who he is, don't push your faith on people who really don't want it, act like Jesus would
