It dosn't really matter if we're talking christian or muslim here.

Both, in their fundamentalist state, demonstrate a severe lack of tolerance.

There may be more fear of muslim fundamentalism right now, but that's because there are more areas where they are in control right now than fundamentalist christians.

The fundamentalist christians may have GW in the White House, but I don't believe they've ever controlled congress (thank goodness!!!).

The Taliban's carnage in Afghanistan gave the world a glimpse of how horrific fundamentalism can be , aside from the various terrorist activities, the biggest issue is the lack of tolerance of minorities.

Sharia law is incredibly extreme, but if fundamentalist christians held control, would they gradually slip into the same pattern?

History shows us terrible christian acts like witch burnings and inquisitions. Would they be repeated given the chance?

Would fundamentalist christians more or less tolerant of minorities?

Less. I was listening to a morning radio show on the way to work. It is hosted by a moderate conservative Christian. Even with his usually level hand one can get him to show his true, hate filled colors to the world just by mentioning the words "gay", "homosexual", or "atheist". Just this morning he went on yet another uneducated tirade about gays just being sick and with treatment and "God" they could be "healed". He went on to say this was a Christian Nation, founded on Biblical values (so far batting 0 for 2). He then refused to take dissenting calls such as my own.

Fact 1) Gay people don't just "choose" the lifestyle. Just because sheep herders 5,000 years ago were homophobe does not mean you have to be.

Fact 2) This nation was founded by men who were publicly and decidedly non-Christian. Most were Deists which is a small step from being Atheist altogether. They believed a God created this universe and then abandoned it, making them functionally atheist.

The 1796 treaty with Tripoli states that the United States was "in no sense founded on the Christian religion". This was not an idle statement, meant to satisfy Muslims-- they believed it and meant it. This treaty was written under the presidency of George Washington and signed under the presidency of John Adams.

Yes, there were Christians among the Founders. Congress removed Thomas Jefferson's words that condemned the practice of slavery in the colonies and also altered his wording regarding equal rights. His original wording was, "All men are created equal and independent. From that equal creation they derive rights inherent and inalienable." Congress changed that phrase, increasing its religious overtones: "All men are created equal. They are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights."

In the end, had the Founding Fathers been good Christian men, there would have been no revolution. Peter clearly states in the Bible than men should follow their Kings, Governors, and Magistrates in all things. The book of Samuel even ranks rebellion with the sin of witchcraft, a burning at the stake offense.

In any case, I digress. If this radio show host is an example of moderate Christianity, living under extremist rule would be intolerable.

As an Atheist that is my worst nightmare.

It would be time to go underground with vast amounts of weapons and ammo, kinda like Dawn of the Dead but with zombie Theists. It would then just be a question of picking them off one by one.

(Yes, I missed the witch burning at church last Sunday because I was sick at home. Darn. Surprised it wasn't in the news though.)

Just think if everyone actually followed Jesus' example. There would be no more wars, no more killings, rapes, OD's, pedophelia; people everywhere would have enough food and drinking water. Think how great the world would be even for one day!

Yeah your right, while christian values teaches that all human beings are special made in God's image and to love your neighbor, non-christians like lenin, stalin, idi amin, castro have made the world a whole better place to live.
