Yes but reading in general makes you better. If you read the Koran it will expand your mind also. Same goes if you read The Lord of the Rings or a cookbook.

I do agree, however, that The Bible is the best choice and will make you better if you have an open mind.

I'm afraid not. The words can be interpret ted any way you like. This is born out by all the various people, good and evil, that use the words to justify their own thoughts. Since the meaning comes from the reader, eliminate the confusing middle man.

Besides, the words are not the original words that are supposed to be the inspired word of God. They are copies of copies many generations removed from what is supposed to be the word of God. The words in the Bible are already bent and twisted to serve the opinions of hundreds of men that came after.

Reading the Bible does not make you any better. By living out what morals, lessons and such you have gained from reading the Bible is what makes you into a better person.

It conditions a person to believe and act in a fashion that in most cases favours pacifism. That is to the good for society in general. However,it also conditions the mind, stifles logic, and leads to selfish self-righteous behavior and reliance on superstition. The OT of course should be read only by potential blood lusting warlords.

Not really. Actions make a person better, not thoughts or ideas. And let's face it, the Bible doesn't exactly promote the betterment of humankind...

You can read it until your eyeballs fall out but if you don't think about, internalize the lessons and put them into practice, what have you gained?
It only makes you a better person if you use the information wisely.
