Perhaps light hand weights? I use 1 and 2 pound hand weights to strengthen my arms for belly dancing arm motions since they become tired doing snake arms and other motions.

Start doing push ups against a wall three times per day. That way you will strengthen all the muscles that you use in doing the exercise and increase their over all strength. Once you can do 15-20 against a wall then start using the seat of a chair. You will be putting more weight and tension on your arms than when using the wall but not your full upper body weight. Once you can do them with the chair fairly well then you can move to doing them on the floor. This is one of the methods that the military uses for women to increase their muscle strength so that they can pass their PT tests where a regular push up is required.

Lay on your back grasping a medicine ball against your chest. Throw the ball up and catch it repeatadly without stopping. Looks and at first is simple but after doing this for a minute or so, you will start to feel it. It works the arms, chest, and shoulders - all of which are needed for doing push ups.

A push up IS the excercise. Just do them at home everyday. As many as you can. Slowly you will get stronger arms.

Do a ciruit like this every other day (3-4 times per week):
2 rounds of
1 minutes of pushups
1 minutes of rest
4 rounds of
30 seconds of pushups
30 seconds of rest
4 rounds of
15 seconds of pushups
15 seconds of rest
Start with doing pushups off your toes until failure. Then continue doing pushups off your knees until the end of the time.
That is a 10 minute circuit of pushups that you can every other day. Good Luck.

Bench press is about the same as push-ups. Nothing is easy, you have to work!

Start with half push ups.
(on your knees)
Do it everyother day and build up.
It'll take time. . .but you'll get there.
Make sure you stretch before during and after. . .
This will help repair your muscles.
