You do not have to recheck. You are absolutely correct. The Bible is against killing anyone. If you are against abortion and for the death penalty, it is hypocritical and vice versa. It is just as hypocritical for a pro-lifer to kill an abortion Doctor. So in order to not be hypocritical in that area, I am against both. I don't know how much clearer you can get than Thou Shalt Not Kill. And Crabby Patty needs to understand that we do not live under the old covenant (Old Testament), but under the new covenant that came with Jesus (New Testament). Jesus came to teach us love and forgiveness.

Your logic is on for me. I would however like to point out, that a baby is not seen as as much of a threat to society as a dangerous criminal. If a dangerous criminal can be contained and or rehabilitated, their life should be spared is what I think.
Unfortunately, rehabilitation is often tied to Christianity and Eternal Damnation Worship in today's institutions. That is even more dangerous sometimes when the ex con enters society. To me, Eternal Damnation Worship is the reason most criminals commit crimes in the first place, the anxiety of a terrifying death experience that would separate them from some part of a possibility of connecting with life and or everybody else's God forever, for not swearing to a lie that some person that lived 2000 years ago was infallible on earth and was God himself on earth all the moments of his life.... is just too much to ask for an honest person....and so they give up and get confused about a God that is supposed to be everywhere and in everything and yet can be separated from us? Go figure. This produces bipolarism, a being that cannot make up it's mind and who can be led by straying forces to do dastardly works! Tribal ancestry mixed with this european religion create the likes of bipolar, adhd, add etc. It is idiotic, this eternal damnation worship!
But society has not developed to the point that it can see the light of day about this so the main thing is to contain the danger so that they can't hurt anyone. If they are so powerful that they cannot be contained, then the death penalty would be useful so as to remove the threat for this time from present civilization attempts.
If a baby was born with a highly contagious disease that could not be cured and that would endanger society, that would possibly warrant abortion also, in this context of danger.

It's actually not, a death penalty person has experienced life and has proven that he is a threat to humanity or doesn't deserve to breathe. An unborn child is full of possibility and didn't cause his own demise or judged by his peers. Your reasoning behind abortion just happens to support being against the death penalty. Not everyone who is against abortion is against it for the same reasons (aka - life = precious). I'm one of the people you ponder at. I do not agree with abortion in MOST cases the child can be given away to someone who will care for it at least adequately. Sometimes, if the child came to being out of violence or something crazy like that then i wouldn't be opposed to the idea completely. However i'm very much for the death penalty when there is NO chance of innocence. Killers and other fiends need to be removed from society and i refuse to pay to let them live. It's natural selection if you really think about it. These demons are killed and no longer influence and better yet reproduce within our society. We're doing nature's dirty work for them, if we didn't the victims effected by the convicts would have taken care of that. If someone killed your son, don't you think you'd kill him where he stood if he wasn't carted off to jail for taxpayers to provide him with daily food and cable TV? Life is only precious in the souls of the innocent.

God is the creator and only He can give warrant to take away life. He commands governments to protect the innocent and punish the wicked.
The death penalty for murder was given all the way back in Genesis 9:6. The reason for the death penalty, is that the murderer has killed a person that was made in the image of God. Thus government has the right to use the highest penalty against those that are scandalously wicked.
Abortion is the killing of a innocent person. Life is given at conception, when the soul is created and joined to flesh. To kill a unborn baby, is murder done in ignorance, but murder none the less. I am surprised that you can not see the difference between killing a murdering slug and protecting innocent children.

I'm an atheist and find myself in a situation similar to the one you describe. I do believe that the death penalty has applications. Some people do need to die. On abortion, I am torn. As a humanist, I value human life as well as personal freedom. In the end, I support choice, but can certainly see the merits of the apposition.
I am no Bible scholar, just myths as far as I'm concerned, but I believe the Prohibition is against murder, not killing.
Most of those apposed to abortion are reasonable people who who feel a moral compunction against what they feel is unwarranted killing. If you ever wish to sway them, then you will need to respect their reasons for talking their position, and attempt to modify those.

Its not hypocritical if a person thinks that way, because they might be believing that an innocent being deserves to live but one whose living is a threat to other lives should be eliminated .Which in a way is right.
But personally am against both abortion and the death penalty.

They amaze me too; I think you'll find most are Xians and they do this 'eye for an eye' shi*t from the OT assuming Gentle Jesus would go for the death penalty too.
One's about expelling an undesired parasite from the body and another is killing a fully operational human unit - a subtle difference there I think.
I like the way all these Xians are lining up to care for all the unwanted babies.
I like the way all the Xians are ensuring there are NO starving children in Darfur.
Xians make me sick with their hypocrisy.

This kind of question emerges when a person hasn't thought FAR enough... or deep enough.
Murder is biblically prohibited. That's when someone kills the INNOCENT... like the unborn--- that's about as innocent as you can get.
Capital punishment- (death penalty) is the rightful execution of someone who is GUILTY of taking another person's life.
Justice- means your life is forfeit- if you take away someone else's. No contradiction at all.

What exactly makes you think the Bible is against the death penalty? They were handing out death sentences all the time. And for silly stuff.
I'm going to go pick up some sticks right now.

There is a different between a crime committed by an adult and one that is murder without even a chance to live. Abortion is first degree murder and if the law was fair would be punishable by death. The crime is the same. It is just the law is not.
