He's not selling out. If Pepsi had come to Dale Sr. and offered him the same deal Coke did, he would have started the Pepsi Family. Coke isn't what made Jr. popular, it was his Dad. If you are a Jr. fan, you'll continue to pull for him, regardless.

I suspect that if Earnhardt is to drive the #5 car as reported, then he will be driving a Kellog car. Everyone assumes that Kellog will not be on that car next year. Just because it is a new driver in the seat, does not mean the sponsor will change. Kellog has been with Hendrick for a lot of years. Kellog was the sponsor of that #5 car when it won a championship, with Terry LaBonte behind the wheel. The Kellogg sponsorship is like a tradition, on the #5. If Jr. does have a different sponsor, as reported, or ASSumed, then he will probably move to the 25 car, and Mears to the #5 Kellog

Junior has endorsed Pepsi products before. Back a few years ago Junior raced in the Busch Series with cars sponsored by Taco Bell and KFC; both companies owned by Pepsico. So the relationship with Pepsi is already there and it is Cokes fault for letting Junior get away just like it let Gordon get away.
Junior racing for a Pepsico Product is just another example of how Junior is making the move to define himself. Yeah, some in the Junior Nation may not like it, but in time they will either have to embrace his new Sponsors or find a new Driver.
Junior needs to be his own man and his own Driver. This move will remove him from the shadow of his Father and allow him to define himself on his terms; not his Father's terms pr his Father's Fan's Terms. This is him time and he is doing all he can to make sure it is his time.

I don't see how Coke "made him so popular." Teams/drivers need to go where the money is to be able to put a car on the track that is capable of winning. I don't see any problem with Jr. going to Pepsi, Miller Lite, Viagra, or any other company willing to pay the big bucks. As long as Jr. is fine with it, go for it.

This is just a stupid question. He owes nothing to Coke, they aren't even a big sponsor of his. Mountain Dew will be an excellent fit with Jr. and Hendrick is already affiliated with big time through Gordon so there surely wouldn't be any Choke related stuff on any Hendrick cars.

I hear what you're saying but don't forget that NASCAR is a business and Jr is basically an employee. He made the choice to sign with Hendricks so he'll drive whatever they put him in.
I agree with you on staying with Coke, but it's out of his hands now.

Pepsi would be a fine sponsor for him. I guess if you are a bog coca-cola fan, then its not good.. but I do not think he owes any allegiance to coke. Pepsi is a sponsor that kids can enjoy, along with those of us who do not drink. I am glad he left Budweiser.
A sea of blue in the grandstands is ok by me.

I've heard the Mountain Dew is a front runner for the primary sponsor. Mountain Dew is a Pepsi product. I am not sure that soft drinks were on Junior's mind when he signed with HMS.
