Even though I personally own this ultra compact camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:
1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries [not a special lithium] which last a very long time;
2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
4. It's very small and light;
5. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards;
6. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;
7. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;
8. Has tripod mount on bottom of camera;
9. And the price is a mere $119 [sold at Samy's Camera - www.samys.com, and Staples.com.] or $100 at amazon.com.
Review(s) can be found at www.amazon.com [Query: "Nikon Coolpix L10" along with pictures provided by satisfied purchasers.]
Good luck!

If there is no dial on most sensible of the digital camera for a flash, investigate the again. frequently you'll see some thing with a lightning image. Look at the again of your digital camera and notice if this image is subsequent to some of the up, down, or part to part buttons. If now not. Go to the menu for your digital camera.. and investigate for a settings discipline.. it perhaps in there.

I see you've already have gotten a lot of excellent answers. A lot of fine cameras were suggested. This is information you couldn't BUY when I think of it.
My 2 cents worth would be Nikon Coolpix L6. Battery life is excellent, should give you an excellent 5X7 print.Takes AA rechargeable batteries. If you're not getting into photography much and mainly need it for a project, why not make a list of all of these cameras and just shop by price. You can check out Website dpreview.com for reviews of different cameras and prices.

Dart got it right. The best camera for a low price is the Fuji F20.
but- it doesn't sound like your needs are that specific. Nearly any digicam will be plenty good enough for web shots and everyday photos.
The image quality of the F20 is really top-notch. The only downside to the F20 is that it has no manual controls. So, if you need to set aperture and shutter speed and want to really do anything different or artistic, it's a challenge with that camera. Instead consider one with more manual capability, perhaps a Canon A570IS.

I have a Cannon Digital Auto Focus 4.0 megapixel, costing about $200.00 It works great and the pictures are fantastic, very simple to use on auto but it also has manual settings for you to get creative with if you like. The prices are continuing to come down on these kind of cameras, with the quality going up as technology improves.
Good Luck

I have a Canon SLR, but it was expensive. I also have a Kodak easy share, simple to use, average price, and you can down load to your computer, add to the Kodak Gallery website and edit to your preference. I know Nikon has come out with the D-40 but still expensive. If you are new to the digital world I would say a great starter/everyday digital camera is any Kodak. Good luck.

I use a Fugi S5200. I think they are discontinued now, but Fugi is a good brand. I bought mine last year at Meijer for $240. It takes excellent pictures. If you dont want to spend alot of money check out Ebay. They usually have guides to buying different electronics. Definately research digital cameras so you know what you want.

Kodak carries some reasonably priced cameras which take quality pictures for what you want to do. Check out their website or visit your local wal mart and see what they have to offer.
