Make sure you use a good shampoo...your hair is worth it. Personally I would stop using shampoos found at drugstores...well with the exception of Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo. Use this shampoo once a week for deep cleansing and removal of residues left from pantene pro-v. VERY VERY IMPORTANT. Make sure you wash your hair with WARM, I repeat WARM water, NOT HOT, and rinse with COLD water. This ensures you loose the least amount of hair. When washing your hair with hot water you open the pores in your scalp with makes it easier for your hair to fall out. SO wash with warm water and rinse with cold which allows your pores in your scalp to close.
Next, purchase a good quality shampoo for daily use such as OJON this is a SLS free shampoo (available at ojon.com), Jason Natural SLS free shampoo, or bumble and bumble a SLS free shampoo (available at bumbleandbumble.com)
Brushing/Combing is also something to be careful with...but before I explain the brushing let me mention that a great cause of hair loss may be related to stress or a particular medication you may be taking.
When it comes to brushing/combing...avoid brushing/combing as much as possible. When hair is washed and wet, do not wring hair use a towel and gently squeeze excees water out (make sure you use a super absorbent towel) allow hair to air dry. If you must...I suggest combing hair with a wide tooth comb. Brushing it will only lead to split ends and hair breakage
Please avoid using hair dryer, curling iron, or hair straightner until your problem is resolved...even then....keep it to a bare minimum.
Also make sure you sleep on a silk pillowcase it is nicer on your mane.
That is all I can think of. Good Luck

When I had more and more hair falling out each day I found out I had Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. However, I had a lot of other hypothyroid symptoms (metabolism slowdown, fatigue, frequent illness, always cold, etc.). It took a while to figure it out too. I have read online that shampoos that contain sulfates (lauryl sulfate, etc.) can damage the hair follicle. Some "experts" say there are negligible amounts of sulfates in the products. I read a few online posts about John Frieda Blonde shampoos causing hair loss after the people used it for a while. I switched to Burt's Bees and really like it. I am just repeating what I've read online and what friends have told me - I don't claim to be an expert. I am not bald or anything, and I have been using all kinds of stuff for ages, so maybe they don't cause a lot of problems, but I figure why risk it - maybe my hair will be thicker and fuller soon...better off overall...and I thought I'd see how organic stuff works.
Are you sure you are getting enough nutrients? Are you stressed out? My sister was really stressed out for a while and not eating right. She started losing hair and it was growing in thin. When she was less stressed and eating better plus taking a multivitamin her hair came back. Of course a well-balanced diet will make all the difference. Make sure you are getting the right amount of protein too.
Too much or too little isn't good. You need the right balance for optimum hair growth/health. A friend who was on the Atkins Diet started losing a lot of hair so she stopped.
As you know hot styling tools can burn the hair and may cause breakage. I have fine hair (but a lot of it) and any heat is real tough on it.

well nothing against panteene, but when i was getting my hair cut on saturday my stylist gave me this paper to read and it had all this stuff about drug store brands and stuff like herbal essance and pro-v and stuff and the stuff that is in there to make it smell good but actaully causes build up, and isnt the best for your hair
i thin kmaybe you should go out and even tho its pricy get a good brand of hair shampoo and conditionar, see a difference it makes i swear! i got this stuff from biolage i think its amazing in the past two days i can tell a difference from the good quality to cheap stuff!
also if you want, you should get a deep conditionar or a leave in treamtment it could help

If you are losing more then the normal amount of hair daily I would see a doctor. Stress can cause large amounts of hair to fall out but so can other health factors.

Pantene is famous for adding wieght to your hair,,,not a good choice if your hair is falling out! You want as little residue as possible,,use baby shampoo to cleanse your hair. Stop abusing your hair with hot irons,,that's not helping either. Good luck!
