Atheists don't believe in supernatural beings, notably gods. And that is all. We believe in a wild variety of other things, depending on the atheist in question (you had noticed we are not a heterogeneous group, right?).

Maybe you are confused with the nihilist philosophy? (the denial of all real existence or the possibility of an objective basis for truth)

I don't really mind, but every other post you are making yourself look stupid.

OK. Let me clear something up. It really really gets under my skin when people make generalizations about anyone or anything.

I hate it when its done to Catholics, especially since I am Catholic. I hate it when its done to Christians - since I am a Christian. I hate it when its done to Atheists. I just hate it.

So I hate your question. Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, or maybe I am just being hormonal... take your pick. But not all Christians are like that.

If you want to address a particular question, then post the link and lets talk about that question and we can discuss. But lets not generalize all "theists."

OK. I went back and reread the question and yes I was wrong. The question asks about every other post by "theists" and not all questions/posts/comments posted by theists. My mistake.

Stupid and wise are baseing on the point of view. The reality doesn't have any wise or stupid, it only is the use of reality. Such as the toxic plants growing in the Tai lake of China, this blue grass make the lake water dirty. Cut out the blue grass and put it in the farm is the very good fertilizers. A very famours legand in China was a stupid farm moved the mountain which was blocking his way to somewhere. The wise man told him to turn a big round to go round the mountain.
The stupid farmer said, every shaffle I take from the mountain which will not increase, the decrease of shaffle will finish one day. If I cannot finish myself, my son and my grand son will finish one day.
From the finish point of view, I don't think the farmer is stupid. From the speed to somewhere, he is stupid. His will should be sucessed.
Atheist is not believe in nothing, he believes in what he believe is true. His religious is the reality such as buda who said don't believe me, proof yourself.

I don't know how many times I've explained that I'm a pagan and Taoist as well as an atheist. Some atheists do have spiritual beliefs.

I guess it just doesn't register - that's a danger of a black/white good/evil us/them world view.

Great point! You asked: "Why do believers keep saying 'Atheists believe in nothing'"?

It's because believers' brains operate on a much simpler level. Life is black and white to them. Good and evil. Right and wrong. They are not trained to understand nuance. To them, God is EVERYTHING. Thus, if you don't believe in God, you believe in nothing. For them atheism IS nihilism.

Yes, yes ... and a hearty agreement to your suggestion that there may be confusion on the part of many christians when it comes to atheism and nihilism.

To rp: You apparently did get up on the wrong side of the bed... The questioner clearly states "on every other post" strongly suggesting his respect for avoidance of rash generalizations. He did not say, "on every post," nor did he omit to qualify his intentions; now, did he..?

They don't seem to understand that theist means "one who believes in gods" and atheist means "one who does not believe in gods". It's too complex for them apparently.

They lack a fundamental understanding of the dictionary.

Its a rather pathetic attempt to smear atheists.

But it is nice that the ignorant people are willing to identify themselves so readily ;-)
