i was just wondering what made it like that... I looked at the package of instant oatmeal (the one u just add hot water to then eat) and found high amount of sodium.. it doesn't taste salty...

It's used mainly as a preservative and as a flavor enhancer. If you make oatmeal from scratch, do a small batch with the recommended amount of salt and one made without it and you'll find the one made with salt has a much better flavor without actually tasting the salt added. No salt=no flavor.

it helps to preserve the meat....because salt prevents bacteria to eat the meat....
