The only thing needed is an official certificate of marriage for the ID and DEERS. Command sponsorship requires a request from the service member up his chain of command. Whether or not it's granted would depend a lot on how much time he's got left at that assignment. It's very possible they would require him to extend his time if it's short.
**********I read all these answers about him needing to go up his chain of command because you're a foreigner. Honestly, I married a foreign spouse and didn't tell my chain of command for almost 2 years. I did everything properly through the Navy's Personnel Support Detachment (ID, DEERS, BAQ, Page 2, life insurance beneficiary.... the works, I didn't need command sponsorship becuse we were in California at the time.) where I was stationed. I had a secret clearance at the time. I got a Top Secret SCI security clearance at my next command. The army might be more anal about things than the navy, because I didn't have a single problem.

Yak Rider is right about the paperwork to get enrolled in DEERs once married, however there will be some special considerations due to the spouse-to-be's status as a foreign national (assuming the spouse-to-be is British and not an American citizen)
As such there is quite abit of red tape that will need to be waded through first, it can be annoying but its well worth it, and not too much trouble if started early. The solider should be well aware of this and simply needs to contact his S1 office to get the ball rolling.
Again this is a time consuming process at times, but being a British Citizen its not as bad as some countries (Italy, Germany, or heaven forbid, Iraq) due to the fact it has to be ran through many US departments, including the infamous Department of Homeland Security.

Your spouse will need to be the one to get all the paperwork . You do not have the ability (and even once you are married, will not be able to do many things unless you have a letter giving you the legal right to do so in his place) to begin any process of enrollment or gaining an ID. Your fiance needs to contact his supervisor and he will tell him what the process is, where to go and who to talk to. Also, if you do not have one, you will need to get a passport from your country of residence. All military members should have civilian passports as you can not travel for pleasure on a military passport (military passports only allow you to travel to and from the overseas base you are stationed at and the US while that person is stationed overseas).

I thought that we answered this question about a month ago.
First, where are they getting married? UK, Germany, US? If the UK, did the soldier get his VISA like he had to do? If in the US, did his fiancee get her visa? If in Germany, did they register at the Rathaus? If the Netherlands, then they just need to show up, it's kind of like Vegas.
Second, all the soldier needs to do is provide a copy of the marriage certificate and a copy of his spouse's birth certificate. The soldier's personnel section knows exactly what he needs. Once that information is turned in, they have to go to the ID card section where she will be enrolled in DEERS, obtain her ID card, and be enrolled in Tri-care.

Goto the local Jag office to get any paperwork needed. Also start thinking about paperwork for an IPCOT (in place concecutive overseas tour). It used to be a DA 4187, but different commands may require a special form.

as the spouse to be is a foreign National, there are many more hoops to go through. the servicemember needs to contact his chain of command to find out what paperwork needs to be done first. and whatever you do, do NOT get married before all of that paperwork is properly done, because you can get into a lot of trouble, to include having your Clearance yanked on the spot.
