I have been fronted by death an I have watched people die. It is not nice, but trust me, religion is not a big thing in their minds at that time.

Note that the question is for you religious posters and it is if you have ever actually been there.

I almost died in a surfing accident in 1995. I specifically remember thinking, "This is it...I'm actually about to die".

"God" never entered my mind.

On the couple of occasions I was pretty sure I was going to die God didn't come into my thoughts at all.
On the three occasions at a death bed I have not heard God mentioned, although two times it was Christians dying.
I do remember an elderly relative who was a devout churchgoing Christian of the non judgmental variety, who, when it was obvious she was going to die soon, and in great pain, without making a fuss about it simply said, matter of factly, she no longer believed in God, I wasn't there so I don't know the details, just that simple statement, it seemed a bit sad that she didn't have the comfort of believing she would meet her loved husband in heaven.

Actually I have.....On two occasions........My friends claimed to be lifelong atheists, but we were friends just the same.

Both of these men had a terminal illness and both cried out to God from their deathbed.

So........religion may not have been on their minds at the time.......but God certainly was.

This is a recurring theme on R&S - when we investigate, we actually find that atheists scarcely think about gods at all, even when death is looming, and perhaps surprisingly theists don't think about them all that much either. We all tend to think about what actually matters in life - family, the things we never got to do, the loose ends we never got to tie up, that sort of thing.

I have seen death 2 times .once in a head on car accident, i worried because i was not saved then, the 2nd time was in a hijacking when i was shot by a hijacker, i felt peaceful because at that time i knew i was saved ,Because i communicate with God ,he told me that i will not die and because of my trust in him i believed him and told the doctors what to do to get me up and going again.it happened the 20 th july 1999 , i was in hospital with major surgery to my abdomen on the 2nd august i was testifying to christians in front of their church standing .13 days after ive been shot through the small intestines.
put your trust in God and you will conquer the world, not in the god of the church
