I have just bought a d.v.d player for the t.v in my bedroom, but the tv doesn't seem to have a hole to put the pointy thing in. The t.v is old - do I need to get a new t.v? Or am I looking in the wrong place? I have no clue about this stuff in case you hadn't guessed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Most DVD players have just video output, left channel output and right channel output on RCA connectors these days. They come with a cable that has a matching yellow (video cable), white and red (audio cables). You can connect one end of this cable to the DVD player matching the colors. The other end should be connected to a RF modulator if your TV does not have matching yellow, red and white inputs. Then the single cable out of the modulator is connected to the TV input and the antenna or cable is connected to the input of the modulator.

If however you purchased a DVD player that still has a single cable output and your TV is so old that it only has a two wire input then you need a 300 ohm (two wire) to 75 ohm (cable) matching transformer.

Electronics stores, department stores with TV and electronics gear, and hardware stores usually carry these items.

I think you need what they call an " RF Modulator", which, I think you can get at Radio Shack fo around $ 20-$25. The info with it will tell you what you need to hook it up. Or ask them at the store you get it in.

the name of cable you need to ask is "AV output to RF input cable"
So an end of the cable will have the AV output and the other side the RF connector. You can buy em at radio shack.

Hook the DVD direct to the television employing the television's vid/audio jacks and pushing the television/Vid sw. to the Video mode. In some places, the interior reach UHF stations may be solid sufficient to "bleed" maximum suitable in the process the previous braided copper coax jumper cable from the VCR to the television. The approx.3' length makes a dandy UHF antenna. employing the hot foil jacketed cable will resolve that issue.
