I would suggest you buy a new one , they are very inexpensive now . I didn't realise how good vegetables could taste before I got mine
As a stand by you could use a metal strainer sat inside a pot of boiling water , but really to get the best effect a new steamer is best solution.

Hi,
Put a pan of water on to boil, when it comes to the boil, place veg in a colander & put the colander on the pan, cover either with a lid or tin foil. Turn down to simmer & your veg will soon be steamed to perfection. You may need to tilt the lid if their isn't a small hole in it to let excess steam escape. If you use tin foil pierce a hole in it for the same reason.

If you have a metal colander, you can place the veggies in it. Place the colander in a pot with a small amount of water, cover with a lid and allow them to steam for about 10-15 minutes or to your desired texture.

place in colander or metal sieve place in pan with small amount of water, cover with loose fitting lid, then get water upto a gentle boil. It may take a little longer than your steamer butit will work.

The microwave method is dumb, don't do it as you'll just microwave the veg, not steam them!

You can get a new steamer pretty cheap on amazon -£14.99

just about an inch of water in a stock pot... plop your veggies in it and cover with a lid. heat to low/med and simmer. that will cause steam to cook your veggies. check after 10-15 for doneness.
i don't own a steam so this is how i do all mine.

Put your vegetables in a saucepan and place the lid on it. the lid keeps in the steam - you need to leave a gap if the lid doesn't have a hole to let some steam escape.

find a wire rack that fits inside a pot. Support the rack on something (large marbles would work)

Just look around for something that will hold the veggies above the water. Don't make life harder than it has to be.
