Vi-ear-gra.
Seriously though, German Shepherds' ears will naturally begin to stand erect by themselves as the dog grows, unless something has damaged the cartilage in the ear. Be careful of ear mites, fleas, etc. in or near the ears. Sometimes a German Shepherd puppy's excessive scratching at the ears can damage ear cartilage to the point where it is permanently damaged and the dog just ends up with collapsed/floppy ears for its entire adult life.

The German Shepherd Dog's ears will stand on their own – sometime between 10-16 weeks, as a rule. One ear will stand before the other, but don't worry – this is normal, and the other ear will eventually catch up. The ears will also appear too big for the dog when this happens, but he or she will 'grow into them' over time.
FYI: the German Shepherd Dog is the only breed with the word "dog" in its official AKC name.

Most pointy eared dogs have floppy ear tips as puppies. They stand up as they get older.
If you're unfamiliar with your breed it's a great idea to pick up a book about them-- these will usually have breed specific training tips in them and "growth charts" which can be very useful to a first time owner.
