If immigrants didn't want a change for good, why would they come here in the first place? I don't think someone would risk his or her life to come and 'disturb' this side. People want a better life, why not give them the chance like our ancestors?

2007-07-16 21:11:46 · 31 answers · asked by Lightning 4 in Politics & Government Immigration

Our ancestors didn't come here 'legally', nor 'ilegally'...the nice native people who already lived here received them kindly, providing them with food and an opportunity for a better life. Thanks to them, our ancestors survived in a place where they found an escape from hunger and different religious beliefs restrictions, among other things.
We are descendents of those immigrants.
If we deserve this country, why not the children of the people who are presently fighting for a better life for their family.
I'd share my place.

I think it's for the reason that Americans don't want competition from foreigners. Job opportunities are hard to come by for illegal immigrants because they lack legal papers so they accept any kind of job even if the pay is low. And that's what most Americans do not like, to be unemployed because some other foreigner has gotten the job that was meant for him (or so he thinks). Secondly, they feel that it's not their country anymore with all these people of different race, cultures and, beliefs or ideologies flocking into their country. Thirdly, the benefits that native-born Americans enjoy and for which they had worked for most of their lives are easily shared with these new transients who have come to America only late in their lives. I think I can understand a little of the American sentiments but, I can also see your point when you wish that America would consider their plight and their reasons for coming. What I don't like or agree on is their manner of coming or entering the land of Milk and Honey. Everyone has to follow rules, no exceptions. If they want to come and start a new and better life, they have to do what others had done - to come legally and undergo the same process.

More info quote from question:
"Our ancestors didn't come here 'legally', nor 'ilegally'...the nice

native people who already lived here received them kindly, providing

them with food and an opportunity for a better life. Thanks to them,

our ancestors survived in a place where they found an escape from

hunger and different religious beliefs restrictions, among other

things.

We are descendents of those immigrants.
If we deserve this country, why not the children of the people who are

presently fighting for a better life for their family.
I'd share my place."

Precursor to the ANSWER:
Our ancestors were invited and helped by some of the Native
People who did not know what to expect in the future.
Thanks Giving was originally celebrated by both the
European settlers and the Native People.

Quote: "After the first harvest was completed by the
Plymouth colonists in 1621, Governor William
Bradford proclaimed a day of thanksgiving and
prayer, shared by all the colonists and neighboring
Native Americans. The Pilgrims of Plymouth Rock
held their Thanksgiving in 1621 as a three
day "thank you" celebration to the leaders of the
Wampanoag Indian tribe and their families for
teaching them the survival skills they needed to
make it in the New World. It was their good fortune
that the tradition of the Wampanoags was to treat
any visitor to their homes with a share of whatever
food the family had, even if supplies were low. It
was also an amazing stroke of luck that one of the
Wampanoag, Tisquantum or Squanto, had
become close friends with a British explorer, John
Weymouth, and had learned the Pilgrim's
language in his travels to England with
Weymouth."

How were the nice Native People repaid?
Their land was taken form them by force.
They were forced onto reservations under deplorable
conditions. When our ancestors decided they wanted
the reservation land, the Native People were uprooted
and forced to move to even worse conditions.
You speak of freedom of religion and religious
persecution. The Native People were forced to convert
to the various Protestant and Catholic beliefs. Their
children were forcibly removed from their families and
sent to boarding schools. Many of these government
and private institutions (including religious schools) were
cesspools of atrocities
In the mid-west, after the railways were built, on both sides
of the US/Canadian border, sharpshooters were hired to
eliminate the plains Native Peoples' main source of food:
the buffalo (millions were slaughtered nearly to
extinction and left to rot where they fell ). This caused
extreme suffering and many of the Native People to
starve to death due to lack of food.

The conditions that many of the Native People live in to-day is
a direct result of how they were treated in the past.

Many of the people who are quick to run down and
discriminate against immigrants in general should
remember that not so long ago their ancestors were
immigrants to North America. If you ask the Native People
many would say our European ancestors were worse the most of the
illegal immigrants of to-day. Most of the illegal immigrants
to-day are hard working people who do not impose on the citizens of
USA and Canada.

Actual ANSWER:
Saying all the above, the operative word is illegal. When
someone performs an illegal act and is caught, they are
punished according the law. If the law states they must be
deported, then that is what has to be carried out.

If the Illegal immigrant "person(s)" have extenuating
circumstances, there is usually an appeal. It is up to the
person(s) to prove that if they are sent back it will mean
their torture and/or death. The courts have to decide on
whether or not an exception is to be made case by case.

Thank you for reading this long winded answer.

Hi JaraSue,

After reading your question and seeing your additional thoughts..I understand you are really young and this is a very complex issue... here is some questions you need to ask your parents to explain :
1. what is immigrations laws and what purpose do they serve...
2.why does every country around the world have them...
3. what would happen to a society if laws stop being observed
4.How a countries economy works
5. what happens when money leaves the economy and not replaced
6.What is social programs
7 How do they work
8. who are they suppose to benefit
9. who pays for these services
10.what is identity theft ..what happens to the victims of this crime (I have had this happen..it is not a harmless crime , costly to get straighten out and it can take a long time )

last but not least
11. please ask your parents what happened to Native Americans after the white man came.....

I am half Native American and I don't think you want to use this bit of history to try and sway others to agree with the point you were trying to make....just a hint...If history is learned and past incidents are a lesson this would show illegal aliens invading in very unfavorable light...

I hope your parents are able to give you a better understanding to this situation , why laws are important to a society, why people who want to better themselves need to do so in a manner that causes no harm to others and obeys the laws that are in place............

best of luck on your quest for enlightenment........

There is a mountain of problems resulting from illegal immigration and it must be stopped. In addition there needs to be a single set of rules regarding immigration, right now there are states which have a different set of rules than the federal government - like California. And to more directly answer your question why is someone born in another country, raised in another country so eager to leave family and friends to live in a country where they are not wanted? They need to effect change in their homeland not bail and suck the life out of another country.

Why not do it legally, and why are they too sorry to learn to speak the language. DO you know the immigrants form south of the border are the ONLY group that has come to this nation that has not learned speak English. And you claim they want to be better???? All they really want is free medical, while i pay for mine, free food stamps, while my family eats hamburger, free housing, while Americans sleep on park benches, free education in their OWN language, that is why

It doesn't matter their reasons for coming here, if they enter illegally, then they should be deported. The law is the law regardless of what happened over 2 centuries ago. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Mexicans' ancestors also stole the land from the natives and they enforce ther laws against illegal entry today. So if it's good enough for them, then it's good enoug for us, too.

The native people received us with open arms????????

How about we slaughtered the native people because they didn't believe in our God

Immigrants came thru Ellis Island and many were turned back.
The ones that were allowed to stay learned the language and swore allegiance to our flag.
ONE FLAG one people. Not mexican- Americans
Just plain Americans

Because they are here ILLEGALLY, We don't know who they are or what they are doing.

Some are in fact working and are paying taxes, but what about the ones who aren't? Check out how many are in our prisons, how many are in gangs, how many are collecting welfare, how many do not pay taxes but send their kids to our schools and eat up the school budgets because they don't speak English.

What about the Americans who lose their jobs to illegals who work for a buck or two less an hour? What happens to their families? Many factories have shut their doors to union workers just to relocate and hire illegals. Is that fair?

Why should illegals be allowed to stay when we have millions of immigrants that filed their paperwork & waited their turn. If we are going to compare illegals with anyone we should compare them to this group, not people who have been dead for hundreds of years.
