This happened to me the other day when I was making guacamole. I never knew that cutting and de-seeding the jalapenos were going to make my hands sting so bad for so long....2 days!!! I have handled jarred jalapenos with bare hands before and it didn't happen-it must be different with fresh ones.
Next time I think I will just cut them in half and use a paper towel or plastic bag from the store to get the seeds out- I guess that the seeds are the part that irritate the skin (from what I have read). I will see if it works next time!

you need to call your doctor. You can call your OB or your GP. if you haven't already done so start washing your hands really well. if you have any breathing problems, a rash or any swelling in addition to the burning I would call it an allergic reaction and you should go to the hospital. In the future always wear plastic gloves when handling any kind of spicey pepper, even if you are not pregnant. I bet the reaction is caused by oils in the jalapenos

First off you need to understand why you are feeling a burning sensation on your hands.

Peppers have oil in their skins, which sticks to your skin as you touch them, the more you handle them without plastic gloves on, the more oil they leave on your hands.

Since oil and water don't mix, it is almost impossible to get large amounts of the pepper's oils off of your hands, just by washing them,

You will probably get a lot of answers about using milk. That only works to a large part because the peppers were eaten and the milk was then drank.

The pepper's oils have penetrated the skin on your hands.
Therefore you need someway to get the oil out of the layers of skin on your hands.

A very good way to do this is to use Aveeno Coletol Oatmeal. You can find it in any drug store, at Wal-Marts, etc.,
********Note: THIS IS NOT THE KIND OF OATMEAL THAT YOU CAN EAT. *********

**IN A BOWL LG ENOUGH TO SOAK & WASH HANDS**

Mix the Oatmeal into cool water, after mixing it per the directions on the container.........
*****I usually add a little more of the Aveeno Oatmeal, than the box says to use. That way I have a nice smooth, creamy mixture, rather than a really thin one*****

While you are soaking for 30 mins. gently massage the mixture in a kinda washing your hands style.........tops, sides, bottoms, nail area, etc., This will help to remove the pepper oils and is safe to use even when you are pregnant.

After 30 mins. of doing the above, use a soft cloth and gently pat your hands dry.
Follow up by using 100% Aloe Vera Gel
(this clear gel can be bought at drugstores, or other stores, it is clear and has no perfumes or dyes, as they can cause further irritation to your hands)
Use the Aloe Vera Gel until your hands clear up.
If necessary repeat the Aveeno Oatmeal treatment like you did before. Then use the Aloe Vera Gel (clear lotion)

SINCE YOU ARE PREGNANT.........YOU SHOULD WATCH YOUR HANDS CLOSELY, TO MAKE SURE NO BLISTERS, SWELLING, OR WELTS APPEAR. IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE GETTING THEM TO CLEAR UP AFTER ABOUT 3 TO 8 DAYS, I WOULD GO TO YOUR REGULAR DOCTOR, OR A DERMATOLOGIST.

But the treatment I have listed for you here has been used by many, many, women and men with success, over a good many years.

And from now on Please put a pair of thin disposable plastic gloves on when you are working with any kinds of peppers, garlic, and tomatoes.

Congrats on the new baby !!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps.

It could be an allergic reaction so don't eat any! I'm sorry that I can't think of anything to reduce the pain except to wash your hands with soap and water. If it is an allergic reaction a Benadryl cream would help.

I don't know what time it is in your area. If it does not get better you can go to a hospital emergency room.
