It feels like a burning pain in your chest or throat. If you take an antacid and it goes away, it was heartburn. It is best to take an antacid instead of enduring the pain. Heartburn is caused by stomach acid coming up into the esophagus where it eats away the lining there. That's the cause of the pain you feel.
