This sounds like a Sub-transformer problem to me. That is where, through wear and tear, the responsible transformer is unable to generate the power needed to drive the three colours guns or for that matter, the luminescence circuitry.
It is a servicable situation, but i should add that the costs may sway you into considering replacing the old girl!...i do sympathise as I have a similar relationship with a Revox amp!.

I hope this helps!,

Take care and good luck!. C.J.

You can try power resetting the tv by unplugging it for the outlet and press and hold the power button on the front of the tv for 30 seconds. Then plug tv back in and see if it turns on and stays on. I had this problem recently and my tv is about 10 years old now, i got mad that it wasnt working and unplugged it. I left it unplug for about a day and then plugged it back in to show my dad the problem and it just turned on. Been working ever since. If those dont work then it needs a fix.

if it is really important to you, get it fixed, but a lot of the time tv's that small cost as much to fix as a new one. keep in mind that if it is old and you get one thing fixed, another thing will break and you will have more money in it than you really wanted to spend in the first place.

cost wise you can probably replace it with new technology for less than the repair.

tech wise, it is probably in the high voltage circuit.
