Because alcohol is a suppressant drug, as well as a relaxant. It suppresses the brain's higher-level thought processes and defence mechanisms, including your inhibitions (which cause you to be wary and cautious). That is why things seem so funny (including yourself!) after a few drinks. The morning after, or the next time you see that funny show, it doesn't seem so funny; even dumb; and you might cringe at the dumb things you did while under the influence of alcohol.
It is because both your fine judgement AND your natural cautiousness are suppressed by alcohol that it is VERY dangerous to drink and drive. Most people don't believe they are drunk until they start slurring their words, but by then it is too late.
I'm not against drink at all: sometimes a few drinks can be a real ice-breaker at an otherwise ordinary party. Just be aware and extra cautious, that's all. and DON'T DRIVE.
If you think that you are "OK" when you've had a few, try playing one of those shooting gallery type games on your computer that depend on fast reflexes, and compare your score even after two drinks, with your best 'sober' score.

It's even more fun with magic mushrooms, some mj, and don't forget the yum yum blotter paper, but yes drinks are amazing aren't they. Rum and Absinthe for me.

I only do this on my days off from work, but I love to have some rum and lay on the couch and watch my favorite movies.
