Jewish men study Torah from a very young age. It is written in tiny letters and therefore they have very bad eyesight. As for the beards its part of their religion.

In my experience most vision-challenged individuals choose to wear contact lenses, though I guess it's all relative to what we're used to. If more Israeli Jews on average wear glasses than you are used it would be because that's the culture in Israel. I guess glasses are "cooler" here (or at least less not cool), so they're worn more. I believe Jews also have a higher incidence of imperfect vision than the average, so having so many Jews in one area might give the same impression if you aren't used to it. Also, contact lenses can be expensive, so often people low on funds will opt for the glasses route. Very few Israeli Jews have long beards, really only the Haredim (ultra-Orthodox). Orthodox Israeli Jews tend to have short-cropped beards or are cleanshaven, and more secular Israelis tend to be cleanshaven though there are always exceptions.

I lived in Israel for a while and have to say I have no idea what you're on about with regard to the glasses! Sure, many people there wear SUNGLASSES because it's extremely hot and they want to protect their eyes!
As for the long beard; some of the very religious do follow strict guidelines about not cutting their hair/beard.

I don't think there is any truth to your comment that Jews in Israel are more likely to were eye glasses than people of other groups. If you are talking about very traditional religious Jews the reason they would wear eye glasses instead of contacts because contacts for them would be seen as something that is too vain and therefore take them away from their attempts to become spiritually connected to their concept of an almighty higher power (God). That type of behavior is common in most people who live pious lives. The long beards are also from their ideas on religious observance.
If you are going to make such broad statement like you are I would really think you should back them up with actually statistics. You haven't shown any willingness to do that. It would be really appreciated.
Good Luck!!!

The long beard is an extension of the law which says not to cut the corners of one's beard. I suspect the eyeglasses may just have to do with glasses being more affordable than contacts for a lot of people.
