I read up adelanto, california....is that city safe? I see new houses in the ... high three hundreds ...how far is it from los angeles, santa clara, santa monica etc.. I want to work in the entertainment industry ...im a college student now but I do have backuplan;

Adelanto is in the high desert in San Bernardino county. It is not that far from LA as the crow flies, but as traffic flows, it is not a comfortable commutable distance. You are looking at hours of congested traffic to get to the entertainment industry areas. Incidently, Santa Clara is in northern CA.
The reason these homes is in the high 3's is the distance from the main hub of the LA area. With the present real estate market, LA area homes are "affordable" in terms of CA prices, otherwise housing prices are very high.
Be prepared for a higher cost of living here in CA. Look at as many homes as you can. Consider condo's, rentals, etc.

You have to understand that "NICE" and "NOT REAL EXPENSIVE" are mutually exclusive terms in most of California. If you want nice its going to cost you.
