u can drink milk even if you are treated for GERD, unless milk makes your symptoms worse. Some of the things you can do to reduce GERD symptoms are: lose weight (if you are obese), don't drink alcohol, reduce your intake of certain foods (ie, chocolate, mint, spicy foods), don't eat a big meal before going to bed (give yourself about 2-3 hours after your meal before you go to bed), don't wear tight pants, sleep on couple of pillows, and raise the head of your bed by couple of inches.

No, milk is OK. No citrus fruit or juice, no coffee, no tea, no soda pop, no caffeine, no high fat meals, no large meals, no alcohol. Don't lie down for at least 1/2 hr. after you eat. Quit smoking if you smoke.
If you are taking Prilosec or Nexium, take it first thing in the AM on an empty stomach and wait at least 20 minutes before eating anything. These are the best medicines to treat this condition. Many of the comercials on TV for heartburn medications are scams.
Antacids that contain calcium carbonate do neutralize stomach acid but they also stimulate the stomach to produce MORE acid so that your heartburn comes back in an hour or so. This is good for the TUMS company but bad for your tummy.
It is also good to put 6 inch blocks under your bed frame at the head of your bed, this will use gravity to help keep your stomach acid in your stomach where it belongs instead of up into your esophagus where it causes heartburn and erosions.
Your doctor should have explained all of this to you and given you some literature on this. I looked up some of the sites on the internet to check them out for you. The Wikipedia has good information on this, some of the others are junk.
