Jesus's last name is Christ. I thought everyone knew that.

As for who removed the last names, I have no clue.

Last names were not removed. Most people back then went by just one name. If clarification was required they could say something like Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham.

By the way Jesus' last name was not Christ. Christ is a title not a name. Christ means messiah. If you read thru the New Testament you will see Him referred as Christ Jesus about as often as Jesus Christ. You can do that if Christ is a title but it doesn't make sense if it is a name.

People in Bible times did not really have last names like we do today. People frequently went by something similar to “Simon, son of Jonah” (Matthew 16:17). The phrase “son of Jonah” identified Simon as a different Simon than all the other Simons. This functioned very closely to a last name. Others used their occupation as a functional last name “Simon the tanner” (Acts 10:6). Jesus was sometimes called “Jesus of Nazareth” identifying where He was from (Matthew 26:71; John 18:5). The name “Jesus Christ” refers to “Jesus, who is the Christ / Messiah.”

Actually, from what I've learned, I believe that historically speaking most of the world (except in Asia I think) didn't begin using surnames until after the 10th century, they were usually referred to by their given first name or as _name_, son/daughter of _parents' name_. So Jesus was probably called Jesus son of Joseph or something like that.

They didn't have last names. They were referred to by their titles. That's why people call him Jesus Christ: or in other words, The Savior Jesus.

He was probably known as Jesus the Carpenter or Jesus the son of Joseph the Carpenter.

Jesus didn't have a last name by our standards. Generally, you were identified by your father and where you were born.

In the Bible, if anyone wanted to refer to a full name for Jesus, they would call him "Jesus of Nazareth" or "Jesus, son of Joseph" or something like that.

(Note that Joseph technically wasn't Jesus' father, but since he was Mary's husband, he was considered to be the father.)

Jews did not use surnames in those days- you were known as x son of y- so if Jesus was going around saying he was Joseph's son, he would have been called Jesus son of Joseph, or in hebrew, Yeshua ben Yosef. If he was saying he was the son of God it would have been Yeshua ben Elokim
