This is the Yahoo Answers! policy I just inadvertantly learned. I happened to use all upper case--great for easy reading. They can't just remain in the background--they must intrude their egos into the process. Using all capitals is not necessarily rude. If it were perceived as shouting that is something it's true-- but not necessarily. And what about the right to be rude by intention? And what about the rudeness of stopping someone from posting? Like subjugation to a machine isn't abusive enough for Poor Man (and Poor Woman)--add a little sh--ty arrogance to it? The people who think this is cool to do are literally damned but saying so will not be understood.

Capitals have been used to represent shouting since time immemorial. Let me clarify something: I can't possibly be "rude" next to such small people. I don't accord you that much rerspect! Which is more than rude--it's harsh--but the truth laid bare. Following all the rules are Ye? Well that too will come to judgement. I sincerely wish I could be judged only in comparison to you--but alas we are all judged as individuals. Judged? What is this goy talking about?? (Using two question marks might be rude! )

Melissa, if you were to try to post the question DO YOU LOVE CHEESE? Yahoo Answers would block you from doing so stating that all caps is rude.

LOL. I know, I completely agree! Who the **** makes up these rules? I'll tell you - geeks and grammar nazi's who have no lives! I seriously couldn't care less how anyone types!

All caps is not easier to read, it actually is harder to read. The reason most people use all caps is sheer laziness -- or intentionally trying to use an effect that reminds of shouting.

Internet posting has its own set of etiquette and if you like to post on the internet you should be mindful of this. I don't think it should be censored, but if a member is deliberately disregarding etiquette (such as continuing to follow bad practices even when being told to stop) then I can see where a moderator might step in and use more forceful action.

You have to remember that even though the internet is pretty wide open and accessible to all, it is not a wilderness and we can't express ourselves on it like grafitti.

I KNOW!! Lol! I just found out about that myself, apparently it's internet protocol or something. I use upper case if I want to emphasise a particular word, I don't know if that's rude or not? It's crazy though, how can you 'type' rudely? Given some of the things that people say on here, capitalisation should be the last of their worries!

All capitals is the online equivalent of shouting. Simple - don't use it.
The phrase " how stupid is that " might also be construed as rude.
Plus using s****y is rude.
Where did you come up with the concept of "the right to be rude by intention" - did you actually read the rules of conduct?
You don't have to be subjugated by a machine - simply turn it off, and go to bed.
"Literally damned, huh"? You're right, I don't understand you - I think you are entertaining, though!

It actually makes things harder to read, and in Internet chat rooms and message boards it's used to express yelling. I don't know that it should necessarily be censored, but I see it as laziness when someone types all in capital letters and I don't bother reading it.

I think you should google "net etiquette" and you will find all sorts of reasons why writing in Capitals is considered rude.

I find capitals aren't easier to read.
