Today i got this really bad nose bleed, I had to lean over the toilet and let it all drip out. this lasted about 10 or 15 minutes and the same thing happend yesterday. It has also happend a couple of times this year, last year i remember one. Im just talking about these bad ones I mean i still got a few normal nose bleeds but they aren't bad. These really bad ones started about 2 years ago, when I got my first really bad one it lasted about 30 to 45 minutes and that wasn't just dripping out, it like turning on a tap and watching the water trickle out. What is wrong with my nose, how can I prevent this from happening?

Besides high blood pressure you might have weak blood vessels.

Citrus bioflavonoids will strengthen your blood vessels.

WOW. I had a lot of nosebleeds when I was a kid, but never for that long or that much. Did you feel faint after you had bled? Because that's a lot of blood, and your body could go into shock from blood loss if you're bleeding for any longer than 20 minutes. Especially if it's more than just a trickle.

I would definitely suggest you see a doctor. It doesn't sound normal to me, and there might be something wrong with either your nose or your blood's ability to clot itself.

In the meantime, maybe taking some potassium supplements would help, as it allows your blood to clot more.

And, DO NOT take aspirin. It thins the blood.

When it happens place a cold very cold cloth acrossed the back of your neck, sowehow that helps. I have been a nurse for 15 yrs, also my son is 15 and has had horrible nose bleeds. After years of ruined pillows and sheets the doc told us there was pretty much nothing that could be done unless they stop the blood from going to the nose.
They said my son's vessels insde his nose are so thin and right on the surface, almost like they have no protection at all and he just bleeds everyday all day.
The one thing that has helped some is simple saline nasal spray, it keeps the nasal passage and sinuses moist and less likly to break as much. You can get it at any drug stor, salain nasal spray. It has helped my son some

Once for his birthday I went to smack him on the bum just playing anf his nose started to bleed. LOL

Also if they last for more than 30 you need to go to the ER, you might loose to much blood

You can't prevent it--unless it's cocaine giving you nosebleeds. If so, stop the drugs. The way you ask I'm guessing it's not :) Nothing is wrong with you. And I bet it happens a lot more in the winter with cold air, huh? Just hold your head back, pinch the nose until it stops. That's about all I can think of doing.

My fiance has never done drugs, and he's gotten severe nosebleeds all his life. It's harmless, just looks a bit freaky and is annoying. One night we were in the shower and he got one, so blood splashed all over my shoulder all of a sudden. Good thing I'm not jumpy!

If you're still concerned, go see a doc.

See a doctor: You've got a problem.

You might have extremely thin walls in the capillaries in your nose- but somehow I doubt that. Or you might have blood pressure problems, or diabetes. Or a number of other problems. And in any case, you're probably just about to get anemia.

You may think I'm crazy...!! Get a dime and put it under your upper lip and leave it there for a little while.. The nose bleed should stop a little bit after that.

I used to get them pretty regularly. I had low vitamin k which helps your blood thicken a bit or clot. i can't remember which. but I had to get a prescription for it. either way you should talk to your dr to figure out what the problem is.

if it lasts more than one hour, then get it checked, see where the blood is coming from
