If some people(could be anybody like government, terrorists, etc) started to exterminate people from the religion you belong to, would you convert and save yourself or let yourself be killed in the name of whoever you worship?

I guess the real question is this, is your religion something you would stand up for or fight for?

By the way you dont have to convert to theirs, just one where they are not being exterminated, doesnt have to be one of the two, can also be another one.

i guess people don't really understand...if what he is speaking of were to happen you couldn't really fight. i mean basically a firing squad would come to your home with 10 rifles pointed at you, all you have is a spoon and a soup bowl because your at dinner, you try and be a chuck norris kind of guy and move to throw the hot soup on them....and are gunned down in a rain of bullets, so much for that right? yes i would convert to a different religion because if i martyr myself im dead, im not going to heaven, i'd rather not die

What do you mean "if"???

In 1838, Governor Lilburn Boggs signed Missouri Executive Order 44 (commonly called the Extermination Order) which legalized the killing of any Mormon who did not leave the state. This order was not rescinded until 1976.

I am in a somewhat special position here. But one can always learn from the exceptions.
I am a member of a one man religion. Once they started, it would be too late already.

See, being a one man religion has its advantages.

Take it easy and enjoy the discussion and the day.

In all likelihood if some group was exterminating my coreligionists it would not matter if I converted or not.

The Nazis did not seem to care that my great-grandfather was not a practicing Jew.

That being the case I would try to save who ever I could and kill as many of them before I die.

I'd stand up to the people and show them that i wont give in. Nothing as bad as this has happened to me but in my old neighborhood there was a family that had taught their kids that christians are evil (i forget what group they were). Anyways i was beaten, hurt, made fun of and a lot of things.

It is now over. So even if i get killed that means that it will be over and i'll be better.

That is why the right to bare arms was put in The Constitution of The US... and why the enemies of freedom want it out... If the Jews had fought back, of been able to fight back, more of them would have survived the Holocaust

I would not convert. And I sure would not let myself be killed. If they do get lucky and kill me though, they will have known they were in one hell of a fight!

I hold strongly to my beliefs -- I would not convert, especially since (as someone else mentioned) I could not live with myself being responsible for the deaths of others who shared my same faiths.

I am a well armed atheist. I will not let myself be killed without a fight or converted. aen

"I am prepared to die, but there is no cause for which I am prepared to kill." Gandhi
I would stay true to my beliefs. If I joined them, I would have to kill others. That is something I am not willing to do.
Edit- in that case, yes I would stand up for my religion and my right to practice it. I would not engage in violence to defend it, because that would go against my religious beliefs and defeat the whole purpose of standing up for my religion.
